I Hope this finds you well.

Hi,

can you please attach a dwg-file which contains the 2 objects you's like to join.

And please let us know which version of AutoCAD you are working with (command _ABOUT ==> screenshot) as that could make a difference too.

First guess ... verify the z-values of the 2 objects, if they are different then command _JOIN can really result in strange (but rarely incorrect) Splines.

Hi Alfred

thank you for responding under a short period of time to help. I have tried to even flatten

out the lines to make sure they are on the same level but doesn't fully cover the whole drawing. I have attached the file i am working on as it could be the file or drawing not sure whats causing it. I tried to do the spline on another drawing in  the same sheet works fine but the drawing in the red box with a spline isn't working if you zoom into it. It should be in red and the box is in red too. I am using AutoCAD 2021

thank you very much for helping me

oh you might have to highlight the lines delete and undo to get the lines to connect sometimes my autocad does that when opening. sorry

Hi,

>> I tried to do the spline on another drawing in the same

>> sheet works fine

Well, this means there does not exist a global issue.

What I see in your drawing ... your geometry is placed at very high coordinates. Before you do any more tests please move your geometry more close to 0,0,0

20210307_173749_0001.png

>> It should be in red and the box is in red too

I can find a red box, however there exist more than just 2 lines.

Please, first try the suggestion from above (move all more close to 0,0,0 and then test again) ... if this does not work, then please save the file with a new name, remove everything but these 2 lines you want to join and upload this drawing. This will make it more clear for me which 2 lines I have to test with.

>> I am using AutoCAD 2021

If command _ABOUT shows just "2021" then please install the latest service pack (which is currently 2021.1)

Also interesting: when I open your dwg-file I get the information that this dwg-file was created or modified by a non Autodesk product ... which product was involved to get this dwg-file created?

Hi,

now I looked to your drawing from a perspective view ... there you have geometry at an elevation of 1.5*10^10

This is very much outside the double precision calculation accuracy, also these objects should be moved to elevation 0 (or at least to valid elevations).

Hi,

please find attached a dwg-file that

- has moved the geometry more close to 0,0,0

- has moved the objects with elevation > 0 to elevation = 0

...Can you here test your spline issues?

Take care, it's not sure that all worked well with this dwg-file for the modifications I did. Also your XRef's are now not function well as they may show up at the wrong/high coordinate location. So this drawing now is just to test the behavior with "normal" coordinates.

Hi,

I'm a little bit confused, I haven't been using AutoCAD for a long time. I'm not sure how to move the geometry to 0,0,0 I tried doing that with the move command and setting it to 0,0,0 but didn't work so I just moved it to make it more clear.

The image you attached wasn't the drawing I was trying to fix with the spline too. I have deleted everything else to make it more clear sorry for the confusion. I have re attached the file again and added a red box around the drawing where the issue is and added a screenshot to help. In the screenshot (in yellow) anywhere i press on the building my spline line  goes weird as you can see from the screenshot.  I have left a spline line example which is connected to the building to show you what happens

With regards to movement I'm honestly not sure how to do that. From my understanding are you saying my lines are not on the right plane? I might be wrong in understanding what you are saying. Sorry if so my knowledge with AutoCAD is very low.

sorry to disturb you and taking your time

thank you

Hi

Omg!!!

thank you soo much!!!

it works after I download the AutoCAD file once you moved the geometry and also the elevation. Sorry the respond I sent just now was before I saw your recent post. I am not sure how you did it but it works thank you very much again!

If you don't mind me asking how did you do it? so I know for next time

Hi,

to your last dwg-file ... your XY coordinates are ok, however, the Z-values are not repaired.

Please look to my latest post and the dwg-file ... does the spline-handling work in this file?

Hi,

>> If you don't mind me asking how did you do it?

Well, command _MOVE was the first I used to get more close to X/Y = 0/0

Then I selected all geometry and in the property window I corrected the Z-values for each group of geometry types.

For Circles I changed the center-Z to 0, same for Arcs, for Lines I changes Startpoint-Z and Endpoint-Z to 0, and so on for all types of objects, quite easy as you don't have that much object types in your drawing.

There exist tools like _FLATTEN, but I have mad e sometimes bad experience with that so the above way I went is a bit more work, but in this case the more safe way.

Hi,

ahhh that makes sense, why the lines weren't connected when doing the spline as they went on the same z as well. I'll do that for next time if the same issue happens again. Thank you for all your help and solving this for me. Sorry to have disturbed you and taking some of your time.

Honestly thank you and have a nice evening!
