SpaceMouse Enterprise Panning and orbiting is very stop/start movement on screen

I have run out of things to try. Yesterday I contacted Autodesk and they took remote control of my screen. He says it's just the way AutoCAD works.

I have a Surface Pro 6 (i7, 32GB) for work and it's smooth but on my home office PC (i7-10700k, Z490 board, 64GB, Nvidia 1660 Super with latest Studio drivers, Windows 10 fully updated, AutoCAD 2021.1 R118.0.0) which is quite a bit more powerful I can't get the orbiting and panning to work smoothly. The tech says it's likely a limitation of the video card and I need something more powerful but come on, I'm trying to orbit a simple sphere in the video I have attached.

I've tried every setting in AutoCAD's display menu and am at a loss on what to do next. Is there something that I am missing? When I run task manager there's almost no load on the CPU or the GPU.

Btw, this was orbiting with a SpaceMouse Enterprise

Getting the correct driver for a video card is important: "more powerful" means nothing if AutoCAD doesn't function well with it.

Older instead of newer drivers may help, setting LINESMOOTHING and LINEFADING off may help, adjusting the choices on the GRAPHICSCONFIG command pop-up may help as well. Start testing soon and discover what might work best.

Can't hurt to try a different mouse driver if GPU driver doesn't have any effect.

Just out of curiosity, does AutoCAD behave correctly on the problem PC if you try a "standard" 2-button+center wheel/button mouse?

I've seen some pretty strange things happen due to a bad mouse or driver.

The title got changed a bit since I posted and it didn't mention the SpaceMouse. I put that in later to explain why I was able to zoom in and out and orbit at the same time in the video.

It has been doing this for a while and pretty much as soon as I built this PC about 5 months ago. Since then I have had a few different mice on it and only the last week with the SpaceMouse. I was hoping it would make it better but it didn't.

I've had a number of mice attached and only the last week with the SpaceMouse. It's been a problem for a while with updates to mouse drivers, video drivers, etc. Not any better. I'm going to check for an AutoCAD update though it was only a month ago I installed it. Long story but we had the subscription at work and now it is personally installed so I had to do a fresh install.

Well, I guess I am out of ideas- sorry & good luck.

One other thought- as it is a long-term problem, did it ever work correctly on this PC?
If not, a bad video card or PCI slot/MOBO is also a possibility. Many "testers" are available on the 'net, including freebies.

It hasn't ever been great on this PC but it is new. My previous was an HP laptop and it's performance was bad hence building this one. I was usually at work with the Surface but with COVID I am now at home sort of permanent for now.

Out of curiosity I just fired up Fusion 360 (haven't really used it yet but got the personal version to try out). It's buttery smooth.

Btw, does anyone know how to change the title back to what I had before an admin changed it? It happens with regular mouse as well. I only added the first comment to explain why I was able to make the movements I did in the video. It's not a SpaceMouse issue.

I've never used Fusion, so no idea what its GPU load is, but I agree that would indicate that your mouse/driver combo is functioning correctly.

Try backing down the driver of your video card to 459.xx

The 460 and 461 drivers are causing the behavior you described in the GTX and RTX cards but not the Quadro ones. I mean use drivers from 6 months + ago. Nvidia is fixing the driver so newer drivers will probably be fine (in the future), but the ones from the last 6-8 months were very choppy on the gaming cards. Check the Nvidia boards - as of 3/4/21 there is a thread that it is still a problem for 461.81

Thank you! It is useable again but still not great. Hopefully they will come up with a fix but at least this helps for now.

I have found the problem. After working with Nvidia for a bit they suggested I turn off all services with a selective startup (left Microsoft services untouched). With all services disabled it was very smooth. I then systematically brought groups of services back on until it did it again. Narrowed it down to my Acronis software and specifically the "Acronis Managed Machine Service Mini".

If you are also having this problem I can't guarantee yours will also be this service but the process netted the correct results. Now I have to contact Acronis. For posterity, this is how to disable the services (or at least the way Nvidia had me do it)

1. Bring up the Windows Search option.
2. Type in "msconfig.exe" (without the quotes) and hit ENTER. This should bring up the System Configuration window.
3. Click "Selective startup" option.
4. Uncheck "Load startup items"
5. Click the "Services" tab
6. Check the "Hide all Microsoft services" box
7. Click Disable all
8. Now re-enable only the NVIDIA services
9. Click OK
10. Restart Windows
11. Once back in Windows try AutoCAD application again and check the issue.
