Can anyone give me information on the snap tracking of dimension spacing.
start dimensioning and when you go over a dimension you get two tracking points one on each side of the existing dimension so you can place your new dimension a specified distance apart. what turns this on and off and what controls the spacing.
Dimstyle (DDIM) -> Baseline spacing.
(is used by dimbaseline command and also dimspace command).
Or you use Object snap Tracking (F11).

Thanks, I got that now what turns it on and off and is there anyplace in the help files that describes this, not using the dimspace or dimbaseline cmds

Do you work with the plain (Vanilla) AutoCAD or do you use a vertical product (e.g. Autodesk Mechanical or similar)?
