Why won't this thing slice with any of the surfaces? It will slice if I just use a point to point.

I've attached a file with the problem pieces.

I'm not entirely sure why the gear isn't slicing.  There is something about the shapes you are using to slice that it doesn't like.  I was able to slice withe other extruded polyline shapes. Also,  If you give the legs thickness then they subtract ok.  Another alternative for you is to use the boundary command. I got an error that a polyline could not be made but that a region could be made.  I was able to extrude the regions without any problems.

When I closed your polylines, slice worked as well. But if your looking for 5 sections that interlock I would recoomend you use the boundary command and extrude those shapes. your file is included.

If you slice point by point it cuts your gear in half.

After this you can slice by surface.

I think if you want to slice an2.png3.png4.png object you need to pass through the full object.

Hence point to point slice cuts the full gear even if you just choose to slice a small section.

I would just slice it in half , then slice by surface.

After all the slices are made I would unify the the half sections.

See attached images.

Hope it helps
