Single Line segments autoconvert to polyline

Is there a system variable setting or that controls how single line segments automatically become one continuous polyline rather than the individual line segments?  I've run into this happening on certain one line wiring diagrams and I end up exploding the polyline so I can make fillets and chamfers.   I am using AutoCAD 2016 2D.   Thankyou.

No variable, you have to do the conversion work.

PEDIT command (or MPEDIT command) to join up end to end single lines/plines/arcs/fillets/chamfers into a single PLINE: look up usage for both in HELP.

Thankyou. I may have stated my problem incorrectly. I am not trying to convert my individual lines to polylines and am aware of the pedit command. For some reason when I am drawing a series of lines such as a stair step pattern illustrating a wire connection the final result suddenly becomes a polyline. I notice this when I go to add fillets to each line segment and the highlighting shows the line segments as one continuous polyline. I am stumped as to why this is happening only on a few drawings and that was why I wondered if another designer may have set some variable that I'm unaware of.

That is not supposed to happen. Are you positive you are running the core .line command? It's possible that you could be running a redefinition of it, or mistakenly executing the pline command, or there is a reactor running that is joining up the previously drawn line segments. Run the command .LINE (note the leading period) and see if this happens.

If there is a polyline there already and you fillet/chamfer it with a non-polyline object it will convert the non-polyline objects and join them all into a polyline. But it sounds like you are drawing a line but its actually drawing a polyline. Like R.K. said maybe your PGP file has been changed so that the line command, or L, now draws a pline??

You know that both FILLET or CHAMFER works with long multisegment polylines as well as on lines.

Can you please verify that it is indeed a polyline by looking at the properties? Maybe the selection highlight is not displaying correctly.
