Sheet Set Field Names and Sheet Set Placeholder Uses and Description List

Hello everyone - need your help;

Am currently studying the use of Sheet Sets and have noted the large number of Sheet Set 

Field names plus those related to "Placehholders". The use of many of them is straightforward but questions arise for several others  - namely which one should be used for a particular situation.

Is there a list, or quick reference source, that describes when and where to use each of these options. Also, have not seen any definition of the term "Sheet Set PlaceHolder" and its wide variety of placeholder types. What makes the placeholders so different from the other sheet set main field names?
