Sheet List Table - Revision Number

Anonymous

I need some help to solve 2 different problems:

1 - Using the default "Drawing Revision Number", my Sheet List comes with no results for that column (it doesn't populate even if I use it to set my Sheets Revision).

2 - Using "Custom Properties" to solve that problem I created another one, I just can't save a Standard Table with this new Property to show the Revisions (It works, but If I click on "Insert Sheet List Table" it won't be there).

Hi @Anonymous,

I can confirm your findings. While I have always found it to be a nuisance to have to add the column in every time I am not sure why it does not do so automatically.  i also find that i can only add a column if it is linked to a Sheet Custom property as opposed to a Sheetset custom property.

Let me reach out to the team to see if this is working as-designed or if i am just missing something on how to make this work properly.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

I am having the same problem. I can enter data into "CurrentSheetRevisionNumber", and it will show up on title blocks, but the sheet list table values are blank.

John,

Did you ever get an answer?

Currently, I have to insert a "Sheet Set" field into every cell for this to work...

You can imagine how much time that takes, and if one of the designers add/removes a sheet, then you have to start all over.

I've been through this too. Autodesk acknowledged this as a known problem. You need to create Sheet Custom Fields and use them instead of the defaults. It's a pain because you have to replace your title blocks. When you change a default field value in an attribute, BATTMAN or ATTSYNC will not fix it. You have to delete the titleblock and replace it. Then make your sheet list table point to the new Custom fields. It works great.

If someone knows how to globally replace the title block in multiple layouts, that would be great. Every time I come up with a new bright idea to improve the title block I have to re-insert everywhere.

If you have the new titleblock inside another drawing, you can use Design Center (ADCENTER) to redefine the blocks (right click on the block to bring up the menu)

Let me know if that works but it should.

I redefine the block that way, but in the case you change the default value for an attribute, redefining does not update the attributes on existing insertions. The only way is to delete and re-insert. Probably need a lisp script to find insertions of a block, delete and replace.

If you need help with the automation to update the title blocks or any other kind of automation feel free to contact us or check out our apps. Several are geared to improving the work with the Sheet Sets.

Hi Jimmy- we know and love your sheet set apps! My request was somewhat off topic, though. If you use titleblock attribute default values from Sheet Set fields, and decide to change the titleblock, lets say change a default value from one field to another, and you want to change that in a large drawing set, you need to actually delete and re-insert the titleblock to make the new field populate. Some utility to do that over a large set of .dwgs with multiple layouts in each .dwg would be very handy. Do you have that? -DC

Good to hear. There are some options available.

JTB CAD Automation Tools and its AutoIns command can batch insert blocks and a custom LSP can be used to delete the old one.

SmartPurger is a more generic batch solution so a LSP or SCR is needed.

JTB Batch Change is another one where you can first add the new block definition to the drawings and then swap the blocks.

We can help with the custom coding of LSP or SCR as needed.

Was there ever a resolution to why this isn't working? A bug in AutoCad?

The fact that this doesn't work and Autodesk know about it is no surprise.

I have found a work around though, assuming you don't use the 'description' field in the sheet set manager. While the 'Drawing Revision Number' data type doesn't populate the field, the 'Sheet Description' data type does.

I know this might not work as I see someone above has used this description field, but as we never use it I have supplemented it here.

Its a odd solution that may not work for everyone.

Will this ever be addressed?  So much time is wasted manually updating revisions, and this seems like it would be simple to fix.  The custom property is not a good solution.

"JTB SSMPropEditor" is an app available in the Autodesk App Store that allows standalone editing of sheet sets and blanket edit of revision values etc. We have used it in the past for large sheet sets and it worked quite well (YMMV).

It isn't free but may save money in the long run...

Hi @EricOlson1973  - Why do you say a custom property is not a good solution? I may have missed that in the discussion above. Thanks

It just isn't ideal trying to convince everyone on the team to ignore the revision field and to scroll down to a custom field instead.

However... it appears that the glitch has FINALLY been fixed!

Yes, they still don't have the gray field background in the table, but they do update.  It works in AutoCAD 2024.
