Set Coordinate System dialog box empty

I am trying to set a location in AutoCAD to orient GIS coordinates around a project. I click set location by map, click the location on the map I need, and then this box pops up, but there are no coordinates listed. Do I have to load coordinate systems into the AutoCAD file path structure? If so how do I do that? Is this list supposed to be prepopulated with coordinate systems? If so, what could be the reason that it is blank? Thanks!

Hi @matthew.ross.hdrinc,

That does sound frustrating.  This may be a corrupt or missing coordinate system file.  Please try the following:

  • Check the folder C:/Users/UserName/AppData/Local/Autodesk/User Geospatial Coordinate Systems for any custom .CSD files such as Category.csd. These can become corrupt, and cause the list to display incorrectly. Erasing these .CSD files remove the errors, and allow all Coordinate Systems to be listed.
  • Replace the Coordsys.CSD file by cutting and pasting the Geospatial Coordinate Systems folder from any working machine or install into the following location on your machine: C:/ProgramData/Autodesk/Geospacial Coordinate System XX.XX. For example, these are the folders installed on my system.

I didn't have any files in the User folders, on either the working or my non-working machine. I copied the geospatial files from the working machine to my machine and had no changes. Even after opening the file with the working machine and saving, and restarting my machine.

Hi @matthew.ross.hdrinc,

Thank you for checking. Is this only occurring with one file? Are you able to see the list with other files?

If only in one file, can you provide the file and the steps leading up to the issue? I would be happy to look into it.

This happens with any new file, but I've only encountered this issue on my machine.

Hi @matthew.ross.hdrinc,

Can you provide detailed steps leading up the issue or a screen recording, such as ScreenCast?

It happens directly when I open the file, but only on my laptop. Both of the remote machines I have available show the integrated satellite map on startup. On my laptop, the map shows a solid dark grey color. When I move the view, the assigned background color is momentarily visible, but the dark grey "updates" in sections as if it were the map.

Hi @matthew.ross.hdrinc,

Thanks for the update and the drawing file. I can see the whole view when testing in 2020-2023:

If you have all the latest updates installed for your version of AutoCAD, it could be the graphics card or driver is not able to display the view, particularly since it is only on one machine. Try checking the following:

Let us know if this helps.

Sounds like that might be a graphics card or display driver issue.
