Sending VIEWBASE to model space.

As part of my #D Model documenting workflow I regularly send VIEWBASE views from layout space to model space. When AutoCAD does this it sends all geometry to a raw autocad dwg file, which I then have to cut and paste into my own template file to allow further annotation. This is eating a lot of time.
I have my own template file set as QNEW and the template folder location set to suit.
I have located the standard autocad templates in the appdata/LOCAL folder and need to know which one AutoCAD opens by default when processing a 'Send to Model space' command so that I can replace it with my own template and rename to suit AutoCADs default preference.
I have tried editing the acad.dwt file (which I only assume is default) but this doesn't work.
Nothing in the folders tab of options points to a file or folder location that gives me a clue to the location of this file.
Can anyone she any light on this?
Thanks
