Selection preview issue

Collaborator

I have a user laptop that doesn't highlight objects when selected.

I have tried 2 separate Windows user profiles and both AutoCAD and C3D. Same issue on both.

I have checked every selection variable I can find. All are set like other pc's.

I also updated the video driver.

This would appear to be a Windows issue, but can't figure out where.

Any ideas, greatly appreciated.

Have you tried setting Gfxdx12 to 0 and if that fails run GraphicsConfig and turn off Hardware Acceleration?

SELECTIONPREVIEW variable?
HIGHLIGHT variable?
SELECTIONEFFECT variable?
PRESELECTIONEFFECT variable?
PREVIEWFILTER variable?
COMMANDPREVIEW variable?
SELECTIONPREVIEWLIMIT variable?

What are the year versions for all of that software and OS please?
Are both AutoCAD programs updated fully? Simply installing them never updates them. ABOUT command is a god place to share what you find for versions.

TIA

Yes. Tried that.

Turning Hardware Acc OFF makes objects appear hidden when selected, but not highlighted.

Another question: Do you happen to use a high definition monitor?

If  GFXDX12 variable set to 0 (that's a zero) then restarting AutoCAD2023 (and even restarting the PC) did not fix it...

Also consider turning off LINESMOOTHING and LINEFADING variables.

Then start GRAPHICSCONFIG command and change the 2D Display Settings pulldown from "advanced mode" to one of the other choices.

Since you already tried turning off Hardware Acceleration as a last resort, then your next step is to start a support ticket through your subscription portal as explained here

If you're adventurous, try downgrading in Windows the graphics driver.

Have you tried running AutoCAD in safemode?

How's about resetting to defaults:

I just updated the driver from an older version so I'm thinking that's not it.

I haven't tried resetting CAD.

I tried several different CAD profiles so that's not it.

I know how to reset the secondary installer so it's as if CAD has never been opened. I might try that.

thanks for the idea.

I remembered I also had 2019 and 2021 versions installed on the pc.

Opened those in both AutoCAD and C3D. Selected objects highlight as expected.

reset the secondary installer for 2023 and opened software again. Issue still persists.

I think that would eliminate Windows being the issue. I may have to reinstall.

Well with each version of AutoCAD there are different graphics card requirements. Perhaps jump all the way up to 2024 and give that a try?

Jumping to 2024 isn't an option.

I have over 100 CAD users, and only 1 with this issue.

Then hopefully a reinstall solves it otherwise may have to clone another computer that works for that staff

Time to reimage that one PC to match the other 99: it might not hurt to also create a new login for that one user too while you are at it. Best wishes.
