Selected objects in a layer won't change color by layer

Hi, I have multiple objects which I select using the command select similar which I want the color changed. But when I set the properties of the color to "By Layer" nothing changes, the color stays the same. I tried using the quick selection tool, selecting all the lines in a layer but I still cant change the color.

What kind of objects?

Is it also a problem with a simple line or circle?

If not: Are all problem objects "Blockreferences"? Perhaps the containing object - colors are not "by Block" the Layer is not "ByLayer" - without the block we can not test it.

Doas AutoCAD change the caolor from ColorNumber to 'ByLayer' or not?

Or di you mean it changes to "ByLayer", but the visible color of the object doesn't changed?

Then change it, save the file, close Acad and re-open the file. Is it changed now?

They are all lines actually, and the problem is with every single one of them. If I change the color one by one it works, but there are thousands of them, so I try by selecting similar and changing the color. But it doesn't work.

The total object count is 106555, but the PROPOBJLIMIT is only 32000 if that is the problem

I tried quick selection, by layer or by color, either way, I can't seem to change the color of the selected lines all at once

Any reason you can't start a command like CHPROP first, select all of your needed objects, then apply the property you want that way? There are many ways to do what you want in AutoCAD, explore all of them.
