select, given an object, everything that touches or encloses that object

Is there an option when selecting that captures an already selected object in its dimensions, and then selects all objects that touch or enclose this object.
Or do I have to screw something together in Lisp.
AutoCAD 2020

For example, the red areas are my layout windows. I only want objects that are within these layouts to be selected. so that the overview map is clearer. (in later steps)

thanks for today help

AutoCAD 2020

Sounds close to a crossing polygon.

 Nearly

I have certain sections as lines,

polylines or hatches.

Because their form is unfortunately complicated.

I would like to use these lines somehow.

so as not to have to trace the entire shape.

if you mean this over all

I would agree if the wording was "all objects that touch or are enclosed by this object."  But the wording "all objects that touch or enclose this object" seems like quite a different thing.  Maybe it's a language issue.  A sample drawing file, clearly indicating such an object and those that should be selected in relation to it, would clarify the question.

Hi,

You may try Fast Select  express command   FS (Express Tool)  . >> Click <<

If the idea is to find all touching objects to form some kind of selection boundary, and if the elements forming the desired boundary really include [from Message 3] "certain sections as lines, polylines or hatches," then FASTSEL will fail to recognize the touching at the Hatches.  And if I understand the intent in the original image, I would think FASTSEL would probably bring in many additional objects they don't want.  Again, an actual drawing file, clearly indicating an initial selected object and what others should be added to the selection, would make it easier to understand what is desired.

it may be that FS fails at the "include" part.
But that's not the problem because I can simply move the polylines and then go over them again with FS.

Unfortunately,
I cannot provide an example drawing, the picture is borderline in terms of data protection.

I can't anonymize the file to the extent that it can't be traced back to the project.
