Seeing Character Map of Shape File

I hate to ask what may turn out to be a fairly ignorant question, but how does one find out the mapping of symbols associated to a particular shape file and the key board entries?  I am trying to put together a document for our folks and would like to list the special characters and how to obtain them.  Would like to do this with the simplex font style.

Hi @Anonymous,

You can start by creating an Mtext object with the SHX font you're using, and choose the Symbols dropdown to list the common special characters and their codes.

Is it a custom SHX file? Do you know if it's compiled in Unicode, or something else?
