Searching for R11/DOS documentation

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am interested in obtaining documentation for AutoCAD R11 for DOS.  I am not interested in using the product for design purposes so much as I am in finding a way to drive an antique Roland CRX-400AR (E-series) plotter from an (antique) IBM 5170 PC AT.

Library catalog, Internet, Amazon and eBay searches have all proven fruitless so I thought I might ask the members here if they know of a source.  I have a passing familiarity with AutoCAD 2011, having used it at work years ago, but for this purpose I need something that runs under MS-DOS.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Hi,

>> a way to drive an antique Roland CRX-400AR (E-series) plotter

Am I correct that this plotter has only a serial interface?
Then this will be quite difficult as no workstation today has a serial interface...

You are correct in surmising the Roland has a serial interface.  I hope to drive it from an IBM PC AT's serial interface, of which there are four.  One interface has a CalComp Drawing Board III attached as an input device and one will be used to drive the Roland E-series plotter.

With a '286 CPU, MS-DOS 6.22 OS and an IBM EGA card driving a 5153 monochrome monitor, this will not be the most convenient installation of AutoCAD to use.  But I'm not interested in the convenience so much as in the re-creation of an earlier era.

Sounds really exciting. Good luck with it!

The documentation arrived in yesterday's mail;  R11 Student Edition.  Two large volumes in VGC and distribution software.  I was stunned.  Thank you for the suggestion.

Glad to hear that.  I must admit I don't think I know what VGC stands for.

VGC = "Very Good Condition". There was evidence of a little water damage
to a few of the pages of the Student Manual but all in all I don't think
anyone ever saw the inside of either of the two volumes, reference and
tutorial.
