SDI COMMAND ISN'T WORKING

Anonymous

I would like to have two sessions of AutoCAD open at the same time because i'm doing a lot of copy and past right now.  I set SDI to 1 and when I tried to open another drawing, it did nothing.  When I set SDI back to 0 it will open as another tab.  How do I fix this issue?

SDI stands for Single Document Interface.

If you set it to 1, then it will only open one drawing at a time.

"When I set SDI back to 0 it will open as another tab" : there is nothing wrong with that !

it should be opening 1 drawing at a time.  so it will open several sessions of AutoCAD.  but only 1 drawing within each session.   i use to be able to do that at my last job and the guy behind me at my new job can do it.  What is wrong with my computer?

I see, ...well I think.

With SDI set to 1, it should stard a new ACAD session if you double-click a dwg in a file explorer. Does it ?

Or your problem is when you try to use the OPEN Command inside ACAD ?

If I do file open, it makes me save the current file I have open and it will close that file and open the new file.  if I try to double click the new file, it does nothing.

Your AutoCAD version is...?
You used to use version...?

Read this older tip from Autodesk https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Multip...

Open AutoCAD.
command SDI = 0
command FILETABCLOSE
[also try STARTUP = 3 and STARTMODE = 0]
command SDI = 1
Close AutoCAD.
Double-click from your favorite file manager.

Change default file association from
"AutoCAD DWG Launcher" (gray icon) to
"AutoCAD Application" (red icon).

And welcome to these forums.

Well I had Autodesk fix my SDI problem but that created more problems.  now autocad opens a new instance everytime I click a file but it gives me a message saying Autocad is making changes to my computer.  Also when I double click a file it doesn't open the drawing, it just opens a blank instance of autocad.  when I double click the file again, it just gives me the ACAD making changes to my computer message then opens another blank instance.  the only way I can get drawings now is opening a blank instance (with the message EVERY TIME) and use the folder at the top to open drawings.  How can I get it to allow me to open drawings by just double clicking it again?

Again: What's your productversion?

For 2019 (or since?) the ootb installation not support the wanted feature like in in version pre 2019.

Standard is: Explorer (or from wherever) is not open a second instance / so it isn' open when SDI=1 and when SDI=0 Acad opens the file in the already opened instance (or it open in a new instance if no Acad is open).

This would be the 2019 Standard and your current state isn't (if you talk about 2019 (or newer?).

Do you know what are the mod's in detail? You say the support fixed *whatever*.

?

You are using command OPEN inside AutoCAD to open multiple files?
