Script Issues

I have recently run into a couple issues using scripts.  The first is I am unable to drag and drop scripts into AutoCAD.  I believe this started after upgrading to Windows 10.  If I use a macro to run the script it runs fine, but it doesn't run if I try to drag and drop it.

The second issue is I cannot set the default program for a .scr file to open in notepad.  I have tried going to "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Associations" and setting the default program for .scr files to notepad, but the settings won't change.  I also attempted to right click a .scr file to choose "open with", but "open with" is not an option for that type of file.  If I open notepad and browse to the .scr file it will open fine.

Thanks,

Brad

What version of CAD are you running?

I just tested the drag drop on windows 10 CAD 2017 and it works ok.

Is it all script files you are having problems with or just one?

As far as the default program see the screencast.

Start SCRIPT command, navigate and select your scripts: do they work?
What version of AutoCAD are you using?

Post your scripts here or share their content, let's see the code.

I am using AutoCAD 2016.  It is probably worth noting that I have updated windows 10 to the "Anniversary Update".  I expect this may have something to do with the inability to set notepad as the default program for .scr files.  I have just checked another computer with this update and it has the same issue.  This is not true for the drag and drop issue.  Drag and drop works fine on the second computer.

This issue is with all scripts.

I have gone to the settings you show in the video and I can get to the point it lets you select notepad, but when you select notepad nothing changes.

Thanks,
Brad

Dean,

The scripts run fine using the script command.  They also work using a macro to call them and they work using AutoScript.  Below is an example script.

-layer m Cen c red l center
-layer m Hid c 8 l hidden
-layer m Hatch c 8 l continuous
SSX LT HIDDEN
CHPROP P LA HID C BYLAYER LT BYLAYER
CHPROP ALL LW BYLAYER

Thanks,
Brad

Sadly, if it is that Win10 update then Autodesk has not fix yet. It is apparently surprising a lot of software developers.

I have my Win10 set up to hold all updates at the moment: hoping Autodesk has a patch before I'm forced to install it.

Hi @bsanada,

I am not positive this is the answer as I don't have Windows 10 in front of me but I suspect it might not hurt to try. I am thinking that perhaps the SCR file is associated with Windows as a screensaver.  Check this AKN Article to see if it helps.

I did look at that article and my registry settings do match what they tell you to change it to.  I tried Microsoft support as well and they were no help.

Thanks for trying,

Brad

Hi @bsanada,

I'm sorry that didn't help.

Have you considered rolling back the Windows Anniversary update?

Yes, I am running as an administrator.  I may have to look at rolling back that update.

Thanks,
Brad
