Ideal is drawing in mm because plotting size is also in mm.

So in paperspace you draw your A0 sheet in mm.

If you would draw in mm the viewport has to be scaled to 1/500.

You draw in cm thus a factor 10 has to be calculated.

If you draw something of 10 cm the viewport assumes it is 10mm.

10cm is 100mm so you have to tell the viewport the 10 is 100.

It has to be 10 times bigger!

So scaling has to be 10 times smaller.

To answer your question: the scaling factor has to be 1/50

go in the viewport and type z (enter), 0,02xp (enter)

or select the viewport and fill in 0.02xp at the custom scale in properties.

Hi and Welcome to AutoCAD Forum,

if your A0 paper have the same dimensions unit style (cm) i suggest to use the Zoom (scale) command option from inside the VP . the factor will be 0.2xp to get scale 1/500 . then from plot dialog the scale factor will be either ( 1 , 0.1 or .001 ) depending on your units.

This is also possible but than you have to add a scale factor of 10 to your plot.

Drawing the A0 in mm is IMHO the better way to go.
