SAT Files conversion into ABAQUS Software

Hi AutoDesk,

I’m having trouble converting AutoCAD Drawings into SAT File into ABAQUS software. Let me explain to you first to sequence of our CAD conversion into SAT.

  1. From Revit model we convert separated parts by model categories of Wall, Roof, Columns, Beams & Floor exported it SAT Files (individual SAT files for each categories)
  2. Once it is converted in SAT Files, I will then open it in AutoCAD 2019 and import the SAT files into AutoCAD. In AutoCAD I will try to UNION all the walls into one entity, same goes with Roof, columns & beam.
  3. Now if everything is UNION according to its categories I will then use the 3D rotate command to rotate the whole model rotated 90 degress.
  4. After the sequence 3, we will now export the SAT files into ABAQUS software for analysis, but the problem now are the following :
  • Some SAT files like the beams or column are not aligned with each others after all the UNION command I’ve made in Autocad
  • The rotated SAT file done in autocad is not properly rotated as per the ABAQUS XYZ

Could you please let us know what is happening with the AutoCAD system ? and how should we able to convert all SAT files perfectly align in ABAQUS Software.

My other colleague does not have any issues on that in using Microstation and we are planning to switch into AutoCAD but we’re having issues like what I have written down here.

Please let us know what is the best procedure in this problem.

Thank you very much.

Hi,

>> Some SAT files like the beams or column are not aligned

>> with each others after all the UNION command

I thought it's only one SAT file with all parts unioned? What did I miss?

To test if the issue is the content if the SAT file or the other software you can try to re-import the SAT file into AutoCAD (or import it in any other application) and see if the beams are correct there or not.

Then you know whom to contact because of defects.
