'rubberband' line while drawing PLINE

I have a drawing that when I draw a PLINE, it only displays the segment after both the start and end of the segments have been defined (displays after 2 clicks). In my template and with all new drawings, when I run the PLINE command, I click once to start the PLINE and then the preview follows my cursor until a 2nd point is clicked - this is the behavior I want in the first drawing. I seem to remember there is a drawing variable that controls this behavior, but I cant remember that variable name. Help!  Thanks...

DRAGMODE?  it could possibly be what you are looking for.  but that does not appear to be a per drawing setting.

can you record a screencast of what it is doing that you want, and what it is doing that you dont want?

Great idea about posting a video. In the first half, you see the 'flawed' behavior where I cannot see the segment of the PLINE that is about to be drawn (if i click the next point). In the second half of the video you see the 'normal' behavior where I can see the segment that will be created if I click a point.

that definitely looks like DRAGMODE, as you can see here:

It will take a bit for the video to finish processing:

There was corruption in the dwg, and after AUDIT Y, then saving and close/reopen, now the DRAGMODE variable controls that behavior.

Cheers!

it turns out the PLINE width also needs to be 0. as soon as the width is non-0, the 'about to be drawn' segment no longer follows the cursor and it only appears after the point has been clicked.
