Reoccurring Linetypes

I've got a few files that have linetypes that can be purged, but come back. It's always five 5 linetypes, but they change names. Below is an example of what's happening.

Command: -PU
-PURGE
Enter type of unused objects to purge [Blocks/DEtailviewstyles/Dimstyles/Groups/LAyers/LTypes/MAterials/MUltileaderstyles/Plotstyles/SHapes/textSTyles/Mlinestyles/SEctionviewstyles/Tablestyles/Visualstyles/Regapps/Zero-length geometry/Empty text objects/Orphaned data/All]: lt
Enter name(s) to purge <*>:
Verify each name to be purged? [Yes/No] <Y>: n
Deleting linetype "422-D200-C-00-XX-M3-0005$0$HVNG_DUCT_000X_BG_Ex".
Deleting linetype "422-D200-C-00-XX-M3-0005$0$PW_CMBD_000X_BG_ABLive".
Deleting linetype "422-D200-C-00-XX-M3-0005$0$TCVS_CMBD_000X_BG_ABLive".
Deleting linetype "8WTR".
Deleting linetype "EAL-D600-56-079$0$TL-15&16".
5 linetypes deleted.
Command: -PURGE
Enter type of unused objects to purge [Blocks/DEtailviewstyles/Dimstyles/Groups/LAyers/LTypes/MAterials/MUltileaderstyles/Plotstyles/SHapes/textSTyles/Mlinestyles/SEctionviewstyles/Tablestyles/Visualstyles/Regapps/Zero-length geometry/Empty text objects/Orphaned data/All]: lt
Enter name(s) to purge <*>:
Verify each name to be purged? [Yes/No] <Y>: n
Deleting linetype "422-D200-C-00-XX-M3-0005$0$HVNG_DUCT_000X_BG_Des".
Deleting linetype "422-D200-C-00-XX-M3-0005$0$PW_CMBD_000X_BG_ABInst".
Deleting linetype "422-D200-C-00-XX-M3-0005$0$TCVS_CMBD_000X_BG_ABInst".
Deleting linetype "6WTR".
Deleting linetype "EAL-D600-56-079$0$TL-13&14".
5 linetypes deleted.

What's strange is that it's always 5 linetypes, yet they're different every time I purge. I have run AUDIT multiple times, but it reports no errors. I'm stumped as to what's going on. The drawing has 3 images (logos) being XREF'd and a border, but the border doesn't have any linetypes like the ones shown above. I cannot post the drawing(s), though.

I have no idea if any DGNs were ever referenced in the past, but there aren't any now. Is this related to the DGN linetypes issues or is something else going on?

If the file not pure Autocad then use EXPORTTOAUTOCAD then open the new created drawing.

Are there XREF's present?  If so, are you purging them as well?

As I explained earlier, there is a single XREF drawing (the border) and it does not have these linetypes.

I did export the drawing to AutoCAD and that seems to have solved the mysterious linetypes reappearing, but this happens in many drawings and I can't do that with all of them.

Yes. Even after purging REGAPPS, cleaning up the scale list, etc., there are always 5 linetypes that show up with random names each time even after a purge.

Are you using actual AutoCAD, or Civil3D?  Vertical and third-party products include various mechanisms to manage layers, linetypes, and so on.  If you are using something other than AutoCAD that would be my first suspect.

Yes, I'm using Civil 3D 2016. If those linetypes were being used by a C3D style then I could understand, but they aren't. When a C3D style is referencing a linetype then it won't show up as being able to be purged. These show up on the list of items to purge, but change name slightly and reappear after being purged.

This is a shot in the dark.  Since you did exporttoautocad and it worked... what about DWGCONVERT.

You could do multiple dwgs with this method.

Try it with one dirty file and then after you DWGCONVERT extract and place your dwg in the same location.

Hi @Cadguru42,

It appears that you have received some good suggestions on ridding your drawings of the five linetypes such as Purge, -Purge, ExporttoAutoCAD and DWGConvert.

Please let me know if these have helped to resolve your issue or not and if so, please mark the post(s) as Accepted Solutions that delivered the answer in order to benefit other community members.
