Remove a large hatch unstable file

Remove a large hatch unstable file

Hi all I have accidentally hatched a very large area in my file and have managed to hide the layer (Large area 100s of acres). However every time I unhide and try to select it the file hangs. Can you please advise if there is a way to delete the hatch only. I need to retain the layer as there is other content.
thanks in advance

Hi,

Use the command "QSELECT" to select the hatch and delete it based on the different properties of the hatch.

P.S if you have the hatch in a particular layer and you are not able to turn it on or thaw that layer then use the command "LAYDEL" and then select "NAME" from the commandline and specify the layer name to delete that layer. Note: make sure you don't have any other elements in that layer apart from the hatch.

Hi,

>> However every time I unhide and try to select it the file hangs.

this hanging NOT because it's for a big area , there is something else . before you delete it , let's try :

  • Make sure that the Properties palette is not open before you select the hatch object , any changes ?
  • check and follow here for why AutoCAD freeze when select a hatch . >> Click <<

Hope it's help ..

Hi thanks for the responses. Unfortunately the file hangs after selecting the hatch and then I’m forced to shutdown the program every time. No other issues with the file. I have had to redo the drawing sourcing old information. Thanks for your help.

Hello @Anonymous

Thanks for the update.

I was wondering if WBLOCK, followed by the setting "Delete from drawing" and an object selection at the end also lets the application freeze. If not, you could use the WBLOCK function to delete the hatch.

Best regards,

Thomas

I don't know if you ever resolved this issue, I also ran into the same thing.  Large hatch being selected would freeze AutoCAD and ultimately I would have to end task to get it bake.

Solution for me was to freeze all other layers  then enter the erase command but instead of selecting the object just type in ALL on the command line and it erased it with no issues. hope this will help you and others out.

Try to turn off GRIPS (sysvar) before you select it.

Also hiding the Properties Palette helps.

And if you often work with large HATCHs, I would unassign Hatch Modify Context Ribbon in the CUI (All properties are available in the Prop. Palette too).

It could be that it's the work of highlighting it that causes the trouble, and all you need to do is set the HIGHLIGHT System Variable to zero [and back to 1 afterwards].
