Reduce PDF Size (and maybe speed up printing)

I am trying to reduce the size of PDFs that I create in CAD and after reading a bunch of forums I found a couple options. I was hoping that someone could clarify some of these options and make sure that they don't mess up anything. I don't want to send a PDF a client and find out that it is all messed up for some reason. There are two options that I wasn't certain about:

  1. Font Handling: If you go to plot, then choose "DWG to PDF", then click "PDF Options", theres a section called "font handling". "Capture fonts used in the drawing" is preselected. Should I unclick this, leave it as is, or choose "convert all text to geometry". I don't care if you can select the text in the pdf, I just want it to look good when it prints.
  2. I found a system variable "PDFSHX". Is this safe to turn off? It seems like it just puts comments in the PDF file which seem unnecessary.

Try this link. We had someone else ask about PDF Size and Printing.

Re: Publishing PDF Drawing Set - Size Of File - Autodesk Community - AutoCAD

Half way down will show you how to set the setting and what ones you need and dont need.

PDF Small is the way we print.

Hope this helps.

I wouldnt modifiy those variables if i were you. Just print your pdf's and use a ''free online pdf size reducer''.   Here is what i use : https://www.ilovepdf.com/compress_pdf

Make sure you pdf's are bundle into 1 file before you reduce in size. Cause free online pdf compressors have a daily limit of a couple files

In other pdf manipulation news, in highly recommend downloading the UnityPDF application. It's totally free and it lets you assemble, disassemble, insert, extract, erase metadata... of anything PDF.

Available here : https://unitypdf.en.softonic.com/
