Reduce PDF Size (and maybe speed up printing)

I am trying to reduce the size of PDFs that I create in CAD and after reading a bunch of forums I found a couple options. I was hoping that someone could clarify some of these options and make sure that they don't mess up anything. I don't want to send a PDF a client and find out that it is all messed up for some reason. There are two options that I wasn't certain about:
- Font Handling: If you go to plot, then choose "DWG to PDF", then click "PDF Options", theres a section called "font handling". "Capture fonts used in the drawing" is preselected. Should I unclick this, leave it as is, or choose "convert all text to geometry". I don't care if you can select the text in the pdf, I just want it to look good when it prints.
- I found a system variable "PDFSHX". Is this safe to turn off? It seems like it just puts comments in the PDF file which seem unnecessary.
