Recover a Missing Group Object?

Hello, I've never used the GROUP command, but I've started to experiment with it instead of creating blocks. One thing that I'm puzzled about is if the grouped object(s) gets deleted from the drawing accidentally, is there a way to get it back? I understand that if I discover this before I close the drawing, that I could use the UNDO function. However, that would also undo several changes that I'm not interested in having to redo again! I'm thinking about the scenario where I closed the drawing, and now re-open it at some point and discover the group is gone. If I open the Group Manager dialog box, the Group name is still there, but there's no way to "insert" the group back into the drawing. Am I missing something, or is this just a reason to use Blocks?

I'm using Vanilla AutoCAD 2017.

If you erase a group, the objects are gone. The name will still be there but it won't do you any good. I use groups more as a quick way to move things around or copy them. One drawback with groups is that if you copy them from one dwg to another, they do not paste into the new drawing as a group.

Yep! That's exactly how I was experimenting with them too! Thanks for confirming what I originally thought! I was pretty sure that was the case, but I thought it was worth asking since there are far more experienced users on here than me! Thanks again!.
