"Walk and Fly" - Pop Up when panning or 3DOrbit without any solution

Heyho Community,

As the title says, my problem with AutoCAD is the pop-up window when I try to pan or 3DOrbit.

This post is kinda my last hope, since even the support couldn't help me right now and is still trying to find a solution.

Okay here we go:

This pop-up message is a bit strange in my case. It kinda appears random. It is not bound to working in viewports. It started to appear when I try to move around in larger 3D-Modells. In the beginning it seemed to help to just restart AutoCAD. Now it's only fixed via restarting the computer.  It seems to appear in completely random drawings that aren't connected in any way. Also it appears "timely-random". Sometimes I have to restart my computer 2-3 times a day, and sometimes it doesn't occur for 2-3 weeks.  This makes it difficult to locate the source in my case.  It also occurs independently of using the middle mouse button, the command "3DOrbit" or the button for the command. Also it appears in any  visual style except for the 2D-Wireframe and the Wireframe.

I'm using the raw AutoCAD 2020 version, without any application installed on top.

I already tried (with the support):

  • Everything that is concluded in this article: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/warnin...
  • updating the graphics card driver
  • opening a new dwg (which leads to the same message)
  • Change variable VSFACESTYLE
  • Checking variable MBUTTONPAN (set to 1)
  • reset settings to default
  • changing my mouse (hardware) (I'm working with a "normal mouse" and no 3D-Mouse)
  • My drawing was checked in the support enviroment by one of the support-employees
  • Different Collegues tried opening my drawings and reproducing the error, which wasn't possible
  • First appereance was in ACAD 2019, still occurs in ACAD 2020 which was installed after the first time it occured
  • To exclude any hardware problems, in terms of not having enough memory-capacity we checked my setup (I will list my hardware setup below)

My Setup:

AutoCAD 2020.1.2
Windows 10
NVIDIA Quatro P5000 (certified driver)

128GB of RAM
Standard mouse  (already changed)

I think I wrote down everything the support and I tried until now. Maybe one of you can provide me any other way to solve this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Can you please show a screenshot from that popup window?

If you have the same hardware and save drivers (and same customization) you can try to transfer the AutoCAD settings as described >>>here<<<

If there is something different, then which differences exist (hardware, AutoCAD release/update, drivers, plugins loaded into AutoCAD)

Heyho,

I tihnk I forgot that, this was one way the support also mentioned and we tried. It didn't seem to make any differences with other settings, mine or the default settings. At least the same behaviour and message occured every time.

Hi,

then the difficult way is to search for differences (I would start first with loaded tools, then with graphic card and driver).

Sometimes a good test is to change the workstation for a small test period. You could login to another workstation to work with that dwg-file and another guy starts working with his login on your computer. Does the error appear now fixed on that workstation or did the error (magically) transfer with the user?

Hi,

instead of changing the workstation, our IT-Manager just created a new windows-profile for me and completely re-installed AutoCAD.

Since this is kinda a complete new Start, I will keep you updated whether this finally worked or not. The support also mentioned that this might be linked to a damaged installation or my windows profile.

Thank you for your help. I will keep you updated.

Okay,

The new windows-user as well as the clean installation didn't work.

Could there be a other possibility to fix this? I'm happy about any evidence on how to fix this problem.

I'm also having this issue on Plant 2024 (I had it aswell on Plant 2020, i didn't import any autocad profile after the transition)

I'm still clueless as to how to trigger this bug, it happens a couple of time every project, usually towards the end when models are becoming more detailed and slower. (today the file it happened on was 20MB of piping, structure and simple autocad objects)

I used to think it was caused by pressing a particular combination of keys but walk and fly doesn't have hotkeys that one could trigger/get "stuck" accidentally, as far as I'm aware.

Here's the little info I can add
Once the bug happens,

-a lot of view-related  commands like PAN, 3DPAN and zooms cause the "walk and fly" pop up to show up.
-it happens in every opened drawing, even those who have been opened before the bug happened
-it also happen when trying to pan/orbit in a viewport that's on the layout tab
-It doesn't happen in 2d wireframe but only in 3D viewstyles

what I tried to solve it and didn't work:
-switching from parralel view to perspective view
-using the viewcube to change views
-Trying to orbit by dragging on the viewcube
-Splitting the viewports in two and sliding the separator to a side of the program
-closing all drawings

-closing and re-opening autocad in a clean way

What I tried and sort of worked:

-Doing "end task" on AutoCAD in the windows task manager while it's running solves it temporarily, but it comes back in a matter of minutes, for this time I could orbit and pan fine after doing that, but then I switched to another opened file tab( an isometric drawing in 2D wireframe), when I came back into my model, the first pan I did , I had this pop up again.

restarting the computer solved the issue... for now

Hi, new poster here. I think I may have just cracked what can help fix the issue as I was having the same problem.  Switching the view to a named view (like top, front, etc.) causes the coordinate system (UCS) to change to an unsaved one. There is a drop down under the viewcube that calls out which coordinate system it is referencing. Make sure that the UCS is set to the default "World Coordinate System (WCS)" and that (so far) has resolved any weird panning issues caused by the perspective walk/fly settings.

Hope this helps!
