"Viewports" command not working

"Viewports" command not working

So I'm running into an issue with the "viewports" command. I type it into the command bar and it shows in the command log as having been executed, but then I hit a snag, all the buttons and panels grey-out in the same manner they always do when a dialog box opens up, but the viewports dialog box never actually appears, and I click elsewhere on the screen and it makes the little "error" noise like when you try to click outside an active dialog box. I've tested out other commands like "insert" that also open dialog boxes and those still function fine, but specifically the viewports dialog box just won't appear for reasons yet unknown. Help?

MVIEW command for viewports in layouts (you added that tag, right?): usage is explained in HELP.

If your pop-up for VIEWPORTS command (modelspace) is what you are after instead, and it is not visible on screen, you can explore here on how to slide it back into view https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Dialog....

Hi,

if all is greyed out as like a dialog is open but you can't see the dialog, then...

  • press <ALT><SPACE> ... this shows a popup menu
  • use cursor key <down> to move the cursor to "Move"
  • press <ENTER> to start the dialog move
  • user cursor key <left> or <right> to move the dialog until it appears on your display
  • now you can continue with the mouse to position the dialog

...does that help?

Hi,

>> unfortunately no, no it doesn't.

Sorry to hear that.

Just to make sure I understand the behavior

  • You start command _VIEWPORTS<ENTER>
  • then all menus greyed out, command-line does not accept any keyboard entries
  • ...except <ESC> ... so this is my first question, does <ESC> bring your AutoCAD back to live or do you then have to kill AutoCAD task by task-manager?

Or did I misunderstand anything?

hitting ESC brings AutoCAD back to full functionality yes, so I'm led to believe the dialog box is SOMEWHERE but for whatever reason I just can't see it and the technique you described to drag it back into view isn't working.

Hi,

Well, then my workflow should work ... so lets go this again step-by-step:

in this situation, what happens when you press <ALT><SPACE> (concurrently) ... do you get a popup menu like this or not?

(sorry for German)

Hi,

Great, now use your keyboard <cursor down> to move the cursor down to item "Move" and then press <ENTER>.

Use keyboard <cursor left> (or <right>) multiple times ... do you get the dialog visible?

i do exactly as you say and it doesn't bring anything into view. worry not, I have found a different solution, found that changing the screen resolution brought it back into view, so all is well for now. thank you all the same.
