"Select objects:" prompt missing

When typing a command like copy or move, the "select objects" prompt doesn't appears. For example, I type the copy command, then enter, it just waits until I choose an object, no indication what has to be done after running the command. I know we have to select objects, but the select objects prompt just doesn't show up any more, it used to before. Does anyone know of any variable in AutoCAD that does this or does anyone have a solution ?  Thank you in advance.

It sounds like you have somehow gotten the NOMUTT System Variable set to 1.  Set it back to 0.
