Sure, just not at the same time.

If you want multiple people to be able to work in the same file at the same time, you'll have to break up the file into separate DWG files, then use XREFs to combine them together.

AutoCAD Map includes a way to "query" portions of a drawing into the current session and then update those changes back into the master file. This sort of allows multiple users to "work" on the same DWG file.

Hi and Welcome to AutoDresk Forum,

one user can only open the file and have the ability to change and save modifications BUT the others will open it at the same time as read only file without the ability of saving because AutoCAD create dwk dwl file as a lock file that prevent others from saving and to to tell them that some one open it.

Edit : by mistake i mention dwk but it's dwl.

In general, that is correct, but there are no DWK files. File locking is handled by the operating system, not by AutoCAD. (No, DWL & DWL2 files are not for file locking either)

No. Please read my reply and the contained links.

This is a popular myth, but it's not true. No DWL, or DWL2, or DWK, or any other file is responsible for file locks.

Hi,

DWL (Lock) files (DWL, DWL2) are temporary lock files created when a drawing file is opened . that what i know and still exist in front my eyes with my system.and i don't know if the video sample that you attached AutoCAD Map 3D 2014 have this ability or not.

But it's good to hear from others such an info.
