QUICKCALC zero suppression problem

I have AutoCAD 2018.  I use the QUICKCALC often while I'm working cause it's faster and easier than using a regular one. On some drawings however, I use the QUICKCALC and something weird happens where it wants to suppress the zero in the answer box, if the answer has a zero at the end. This only happens when I am doing math problems in feet and inches, so typing with x'-x". To give an example, if I type 10" in QUICKCALC and press enter, my answer will be 1". If I type 2'-0" - 2" and press enter, my answer comes out to 1'-1". Whenever there is a zero at the end of my answer it wants to suppress it. If I type 10 without an " mark and press enter, I will get 10 in the answer box.

This problem only applies to some drawings that I open, not many of them but it's still an issue. I had AutoCAD 2012 back in the day and I had the same problem. My gut instinct was to check and see if my dimension settings were causing this. So I surfed through DIMSTY and modified the current layer to not suppress the 0" at the end of the dimensions. To clarify this is in the primary units column, under zero suppression I have the 0 feet box checked, so that I suppress the 0' if there is no amount of feet, and the 0 inches box is not checked, so I am not suppressing the 0" in my dimensions. This setting failed to fix my problem and I'm kind of at a loss. This is a big problem because it can catch me off guard really easily while I'm working and I might get some calculations wrong. Appreciate any help I can get guys thanks.

Hi @RIPBillyMays,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I am not seeing this on my side when I use Quickcalc in 2018.1.1

Is your AutoCAD fully up-to-date?

If you use Reset Settings to Default does the behavior change?

Darnit! I had it in my head to clarify that in my original post, but I forgot, dummy me. Yes my AutoCAD is completely up to date, I recently checked before making this post and after reading your reply. I also probably should have included photos to my original post. Since I can't see a way to edit the original post to include them, I'll put the pictures on my reply. I have also reset my factory settings to default and this has not solved my problem unfortunately. The picture I am showing of the QUICKCALC was taken after I reset my settings just now. QUICKCALC.jpgAutoCAD updates.jpg

Since my original post I checked a buddies computer, who also has AutoCAD 2018 fully updated, and he ran into the same problem. We determined that this problem only occurs when trying to type out 10" into the calculator. For some reason it wants to get rid of the 0 at the end of the 10" and read it as 1". There is no problem with numbers like 100" or 20", etc. I will also reiterate, this problem is only evident in a few drawings that I open. Most of my drawings if I typed in 10" and pressed enter, my answer would rightly come out to 10.0" in the answer box.

I just tried again and still can't get it to fail. I wonder though, are the drawings where this happens for you perhaps originally in Metric rather than imperial? Or perhaps started with a different setting for Units and then got converted using -Units? Can you share one of the drawings with me that displays this behavior?

I've never opened a drawing in Metric, or at least I don't believe I have. When I go to draw or measure things in our drawings it either comes out in exact decimal numbers, or some drawings it will show up in feet and inches. I don't know anything about - Units or any unit settings really other than dimensional unit settings. I have attached one of my drawings where the problem appears, I'm eager to see if you experience my issue.

I edited my reply to edit my attached drawing and remove all the title blocks at the bottom, just in case my company doesn't appreciate me putting their name out on the internet haha.

Hi @RIPBillyMays

I noticed that your drawing units are set to decimal and not architectural. If you change this then the QuickCalc accepts the 10" just fine.

Please let me know if this works on your side too.

Yes, that did the trick. Changing the units to architectural solved the issue on my end as well, but I'm still a little stumped as to how this problem came to be. A good 80% to 90% of the drawings I work with are in decimal units, and the calculator works perfectly fine. I am curious to try and find out how this specific drawing, and the others like it have this bug or problem when the units are set to decimal, so that I might prevent this issue from occurring and be able to use decimal units on all of my drawings. I prefer to use decimal units when I work just because it's more precise.

I have been having this same issue since 2012 AutoCAD. It should still work in decimal format. The fact that it only happens with the 10" definitely shows that there is something wrong. Every other ft to in calculation works in decimal, UNLESS the answer ends with 10", it will just drop the 0 at the end and show show 1".  If you type just 10" and hit enter it shows 0'-1".
