Question about potential issues with ACAD & Windows 11 upgrade

So, we are having issues with my current Windows 10 install applying important security updates. The plan is to wipe the drive and start fresh.

But a thought from IT came up today about the possibility of just upgrading windows to Win11 instead of reinstalling Win10.  Something to try instead of going for broke.

Our concern is, should we expect AutoCAD (2020)/Advance Steel (2022) to work normally after the upgrade to Windows 11 or are we asking for trouble ?

Thank you!

2020 is old but almost all of us here in our office are running Win11Pro with no issues at all between 2022 through 2025.

either way, installing a new OS overtop an old OS will always create an issue for some users: if you're going to start fresh anyway then be consistent an do that with Win11 too (why risk migrating win10 issues into win11 by just slapping new right over old)? Rookie I.T. move is I may be so bold.

Understood, but the point is to avoid starting fresh unless it's absolutely necessary. Too much downtime. We're going to see if a simple windows upgrade fixes the updating, but we just weren't sure if it will cause issues for the Autodesk products.

I don't think I'm stuck on ACAD 2020, can upgrade that, but I am stuck on Advance Steel 2022. At least until everything is working, simply to make sure all my customization isn't lost (per the other thread you have helped in).

This is Autodesk official statement

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Windows-11-support...

But if you have the time it’s definitely worth testing it out or just install the newer version that supports 11

You stated it was with the sentence "... having issues with my current Windows 10 install applying important security updates...", so it seems you do indeed have to go the long and hard way.

What I meant was we don't yet know if the updating will be fixed with an OS upgrade, or if it will take a wiped hard drive.

Have your IT staff make a clone of your hard drive first before doing anything. Then you can always go back to the clone copy if all else fails.

I would update Windows with a clean install. Also, Windows 10 is nearing end of support.
