Publishing PDF Drawing Set - Size Of File

can anyone tell me why when i publish a set of PDF drawings from ACAD 2022 it's 3X larger of a file than when i print from 2020? I've seen this with past releases as well and never been able to figure it out. Everything looks to be set up the same.

Can you take the same file in print it in both versions?

If you can share the file I can print it to PDF in a few version of acad to see the results.

But the first thing I would do is clean the file, and in the last effort to reduce I would transfer parts of the file to a clean drawing in interval transfers, pastes into a clean drawing >> purge >> paste into final clean version.

Yes it's the same file. When I print from 2020 it's just over 6mg but when printed using 2022 the file size is 18mg.

Yes. I know what you mean. We had the same issue.

I did a post for another question and I do believe this will help you issues with size.

Find the section that says about using PDF SMALLEST SIZE and then set it to 400/200.

Look at Message 4 of 5 for your settings and Path if you have issues with that.

Here is the link to the previous post:  Betreff: Accoreconsole How to change default publish file path - Autodesk Community - AutoCAD

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I tried that and it reduced the file size but not by much. i've had this issue with another version awhile back. It's frustration using one version then having to open it in another version to print it just to make a smaller file.

Can you share DWG file(s) for others to test? We all have 2020 and 2022 and many of us are not seeing such a dramatic increase.

here's a small file of a floor plan. It's not as dramatic as the larger products but it's still close to double in size. I've also included the pdf's published.

I uninstalled and re installed 2022 this am in case the program had a glitch but it still does the same.

I tested your file on 2020 and 2022 and my file size is the same at 236 KB.

I have pasted my settings for your information. I used 17x11 at Fit Center.

But you may want to run an Audit on your drawing and yes fix errors. My system found 385 errors. You may want to run that on all of your files due to it is like a virus, you copy paste into other drawings and it can corrupt them as well.

Like the other user/post, I too find no variation at all in PDF sizes in AutoCAD 2020-2021-2020 usign the core PDF drivers in each version.

BUT... your 2022 PDF was created with a PDF writer tool called PDFTRON PDFNET V9.00778, are you perhaps not paying attention to what drivers are being used? I bet that's your problem.

Interesting on the PDF driver... everything appears to be set up the same as 2020 when publishing. Is there somewhere else I can select which driver ACAD uses to publish files?

No idea, that is what your actual PDF reports in PROPERTIES ,and it is just a factual listing of the file's state. Someone create a PC3 file for you and call it something generic you are selecting perhaps?
Or you are publishing with preset pagesetups, and it is defined there.

Both R2020 and R2022 are packaged with 5 other PDF drivers in PLOT and PUBLISH pop-ups in a pulldown right there at the top right above your list, what happens if you use one of them instead.

Try one of the other 5 PDF drivers: also ask your IT folks (and CAD Manager) about this third-party PDF creator tool as well, it came from somewhere, it's not in any of our R2022 setups in our office for example.

All of my PC3 files have the date of 2014 to them like they have been migrated from previous versions. I wonder if that has something to do with it.

we all have the same ones: you have a third party PDF tool in use somewhere or somehow, none of us get that in our PDFs plotting to PDFs using the General Documentation PDF driver in R2022.1 in Win10Pro.
