Publish multiple individual PDF files AND Prompt for File Location

Hi folks, I know this is an oldie but a goodie, but I'm stumped. I know I've gotten this to work in the past but I cannot for the life of me get it to work now.

This is all I want to do:

  1. Publish a sheet set using Page Setup Overrides (this bit works fine).
  2. Have the output be individual PDF's (one PDF per sheet in the sheet set).
  3. I want to be prompted for where to put these sheets each time I publish.

Am I Cuckoo bananas? There must be a way!

At the moment I can either:

Plot all the sheets into one single PDF file and be prompted for where to put that file...

or...

Plot each sheet to its own PDF file but only in the location defined in the Sheet Set PDF Publish Options with no prompt to select the file location.

Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I fear I may not have been clear enough in my description of the issue.

Here at our firm we use the following method to publish sheet sets:

Right click the sheet set name in the SSM

Select "Publish using plot overrides" and pick the desired PDF sheet size

The location where we want to place the resultant PDF files changes... all the time.

What I would like to happen when we publish in this manner is:

  • AutoCAD asks where I want to put the PDF files
  • AutoCAD makes one separate PDF for each sheet in the set in the selected location

Now...

I can get AutoCAD to ask where to put the file but then it makes one multi page PDF with all the sheets in it.

I can get AutoCAD to make a separate PDF for each sheet, but then it does not ask where they should be placed and instead uses the defined default publish location defined in the sheet set.

I would like AutoCAD to do both things. Ask me where to put the PDFs and make one separate PDF for each sheet in the set in that location.

Hope this clears up my issue.

Thanks all for any guidance.

Maybe you are mis-remembering? Or used something other than a core tool like PUBLISH?
What you seem to be describing is some sort of PLOT command script or customization more than anything.

How long ago was this possible, and what year version and variant of AutoCAD was it? Maybe someone will remember a similar ability.
