Proxy Objects; ERROR in DeepCloneXlation:eWasErased; Copy To Clipboard Failed

All of the above seem to go hand in hand lately....

About a week ago I tried to open a file that was created in AutoCAD Civil 3D.... I crashed since I don't have that installed.  Since then, I've been having many issues trying to copy / paste, Wblock, etc.  I've done all the searches and have tried all the fixes but nothing seems to work.  It started when I tried to copy / paste and I recieved the "Copy To Clipboard Failed" pop up box and the "ERROR in DeepCloneXlation:eWasErased" came up on the command line.  When I searched for fixes, it brought me to the proxy objects.  I've tried the last ditch fix of -EXPORTTOAUTOCAD to rid my drawing of these proxy objects but they still don't go away.  Once I run that, I still get the errors shown in the image below.  It states that the proxy items are associated with Civil3D.  How do I get rid of these final proxy objects?  I've done multiple -EXPORTTOAUTOCAD on this file (oh...and I get the "ERROR in DeepCloneXlation:eWasErased" when I run it as well) to no avail.  And,  I've deleted all temp files that were associated with crashing....HELP!

Thanks,

Christine

Apologies - I should've posted this in the 2015 forum.... I'll post there instead.

Hi,

First at all: the dialog is not an error dialog, it gives you the information that there are proxy objects in the drawing, and from which applications they were created. But nothing of that is an error message.

Interesting is that you wrote that you run -EXPORTTOAUTOCAD, but the proxies stay in that drawing, that is strange and makes me more thinking that you created a new drawing with that command, but opened again the old one. Please notice that -EXPORTTOAUTOCAD creates a new drawing, in most cases with a leading "ACAD-" prefix in the filename.

As a sample if your drawing was called "GEODASY.DWG" the exported drawing will be named "ACAD-GEODASY.DWG" ... and that is the drawing you should use then to continue your work and that drawing should not show any proxy-informations (at least not the ones from Civil 3D.
Can you please verify that you opened the new file?

Very interesting.....I was indeed not opening a new file when I recieved that Proxy dialogue box.  But I just searched my system, and the -EXPORTTOAUTOCAD didn't actually create any new files.  Having said that, the proxy problem has been fixed by installing the Civil3D object enabler for AutoCAD 2015.

I've now done a reinstall on my AutoCAD 2015 and am still receiving the "Copy to Clipboard Failed".... just not sure where to go from here....

I also posted this in the Autocad 2015 forum since I posted here in error.  I have been receiving feedback there as well.

Hi,

>> still receiving the "Copy to Clipboard Failed"

As long as there are Civil 3D objects in the drawing you can't copy such objects. The objects enabler just helps for some display issues, but does not let you create new objects. And copying a Civil3D object means "create a new one with the settings of the existing one ... and that (with that types of objects) can only work when you do have Civil 3D.

>> -EXPORTTOAUTOCAD didn't actually create any new files

Have you got any error message? If not I'm quite sure the file was created. When you where asked for the filename within the export command make sure to enter a valid folder- and filename and then - after the command finished - look to that folder.

If you get an error message, then please let us know which one.

I just tried the -EXPORTTOAUTOCAD again and I received the "ERROR in DeepCloneXlation:eWasErased" error at the command line.

Hi,

can you ask the creator of the drawing (the one who has Civil 3D) to run the -EXPORTTOAUTOCAD command and send you the exported drawing back?

Or can you upload the drawing so we try to export it?

The issue is, the drawing I'm not working in has nothing to do with the Cvil3D drawing.  This is how it went down:

1. I tried opening a drawing created in Cvil3D without having Civil3D installed (I didn't know it was a Cvil3D drawing at the time).

2. My AutoCAD crashed.

3. I cleaned out all temp files from the crash.

4. I have not done anything with that drawing or project since.

5. Now every drawing I open in AutoCAD has this "Copy to Clipboard Failed" error when I try to copy anything out.

6. Other users can open the drawing and successfully do the copy... It's something on my computer.

7. I thought a fresh install would clear it, but apparently not.

This is getting so frustrating.... you don't realize how often you use CTRL+C until you can't use it...

Hi,

Ok, when it does not have anything to do with the drawing showing the proxy-information dialog then try to reset your AutoCAD profile as described >>>here<<<.

This will reset all settings and customizations to the default values as if AutoCAD was fresh installed (for your user account).

If you have done any customizations please backup them first.

Looks like I finally found the culprit.... now just to figure out how to fix it...

I reinstated the original "out-of-the-box" profile.  Since we run CadWorx and CadWorx Equipment through AutoCad, we have to add those support paths into the "Support File Search Path" of the "Files" portion of the "Options" dialogue box.  I can add the CadWorx path (C:\CADWorx 2015\Plant\Support) without problems but as soon as I add the CadWorx Equipment path (C:\CADWorx 2015\Equipment\Support), my "Copy to Clipboard Failed" errror returns.  I remove that path and restart, it goes away.  If I run CadWorx Equipment as a separate entity, all is good as well.

For now I will just run the two programs separate but in the meantime I'll continue to try and figure out why these errors are happening.  I'm thinking something in my Registry??

Hi,

>> as soon as I add the CadWorx Equipment path (C:\CADWorx 2015\Equipment\Support),

Well, one time I didn't ask what runs on top of AutoCAD ... :cara_guiñando_un_ojo:

Good catch!

>> in the meantime I'll continue to try and figure out why these errors are happening.

>> I'm thinking something in my Registry??

No, the registry does not have anything to do with that. The only step you can go is to send this information to the developer of CadWorx.
