Problems with copy and paste between different drawings

Hi,

I have problems with copy (ctr + C) and paste (Crt + V) between different drawings. It does not display any error, but the item copied does not appear at the second drawing. I have tried with blocks and with individual lines, and any of them appeard. I can copy and paste to a new white template but I cannot paste to an existing drawing.

It has happened to me several times with different drawings, and I cannot find the solution.

Thanks.

Hi,

welcome @Anonymous.autodesk.com!

There are 2 common issues for copy and paste

  • The units ... when the units in the source drawing and destination drawing are different, then a scaling can happen, which results in very small or very big pasted content, too small to see the items or too big to see the items without zoom-extents
  • blocks are copied ... and the names of the blocks exist already in the destination drawing. So if the block definitions are already defined in the destination drawing they may differ from the definitions in the source drawing. And in that case the result can look different compared to the geometry in the source drawing.

You always have the chance to use _WBLOCK to create a new drawing from the items you want to copy. Then use command _INSERT in the drawing you want to paste the geometry to ... this gives you (while dragging for insertion point) a better feeling about the position and content you are working with.

Hi,

would you try to copybase by Ctrl+Sift+c and pasteblock by Ctrl+Shift+v.and make sure that your copied items are in turned ON layers.

Are the source and destination files generated in house or are you copying from files obtained from outside sources?

If the latter is the case, could you describe the drawing environment, i.e. your AutoCAD version and the source of the files?

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Hi,

i can not copy and past the same coordinate system,

I have tried Wblock and inseert as block

I have tried copy paste original location

I have trieid copy and past as block

Both drawing are same coordinate system, same UCS World, and have the same units but drawing is showing different location after coping but when i am changing drawing, vice versa it works fine. one of the drawing is the blocking to paste original size and location.

when i am viwing coordinates at the same location it is showing correct for both drawing. i have paste to original coordinates, a object (circle 50m radius) and type a coordinates and the scale was different. this is automaticaly changing when i am pasting the object. the circle with 50m  radiuse is now 600m radius but vice versa it is correct scale and location or when i am pasting into new drawing it works fine. so what's wrong one of my drawing, what setting need be changing?

i must be doing something wrong let me know if you have a answer please.

thank you for your support

Hi,

when you start command -DWGUNITS, which units are set in that command line oriented variables?

Also please start command _ABOUT and show us your screenshot so we know which type and version of program you are using.
