PROBLEM WITH XREF'S AFTER INSERTING

Anonymous

I'm using AutoCAD 2015 and Cadworx as our 3D design program. The issue I am having with the xref's is as follows:

1. Make the xref and insert it into the drawing-no problem there.

     a. No dedicated xref layer.

2. I need to move the xref around during the design process-here there is a problem.

     a. I can move it once, maybe twice, then it freezes up.

           1. It will not move.

           2. It will not erase.

           3. It cannot be manipulated in the xref dialog box.

If I want to use xref's, the only solution I have been able to come up with is to exit the drawing and re-open. Then if I need to work with the xref's the whole process starts again. Needless to say: time consuming and frustrating. The other option I have is to insert the xref object as a block instead. That allows me to manipulate the object, but then it is not an xref.

Is there a setting to check? Any suggestions?

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

Do you still see this behavior if you remove CADWORX?

Please describe your computer hardware and Operating System.

Have you applied the patches and service packs from here?

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

Thanks for the reply. More information:

1. Problem exists in AutoCAD even without Cadworx.

2. Running Windows 7 Pro.

3. Dell computer with 8GB RAM, Intel Xeon CPU E5-1607 v2 @ 3.00 GHz.

4. All service packs and patches are up-to-date.

Hi @Anonymous,

Can you attach a few sample drawings that exhibit this behavior? I would like to try and isolate what might be at the root of this issue.

Sorry, all the drawings I have are proprietary. I would need to generate a drawing and that will have to wait a few days. I will get a sample done and get it posted sometime next week.

Hi,

would you try this :

  • change INDEXCTL system variable to 3 .
  • Disable hardware acceleration from 3DCONFIG command.
  • disconnect any devices connect to your PC.

do the previous one by one and see if any differences happen.

is there a lot of annotative objects in your xrefs?

Is this isolated to the XREFs only? For example, you can move other objects even when the XREF cannot be moved.

Does this happen in all files using XREFs?

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

RobDraw,

This is only with xref's. If I insert the xref drawings as blocks instead of xref's I have no problems.

imadhabash,

Sorry to report: the changes you suggested did not work. The problem persists.
