Hi,

Welcome to Autodesk’s AutoCAD Forums.

after using RECOVER in AutoCAD 2016, I am able to open this file in AutoCAD. I also AUDIT and PURGE this file. 

I even plot it to PDF. You will see Proxy dialog box while opening it. which you can choose "Do Not Show Proxy Graphics".

I opened the file, draw a line, hit enter and the bottom ribbon disappeared

When you open drawing there is (not sure what you call them) command buttons (e.g polar tracking, ortho mode) on the bottom of the drawing and when I move the drawing or press enter they disappear.

Thanks: is your autocad version fully patched and updated? That sounds like a bigger problem than just a drawing file.
