Problem with converting 3D models to 2D and then copy + paste into another drawing

Hi Guys,

Long story short, I have a SLDPRT file which I have converted into first .ipt then .dwg which then I want to open in AutoCAD. After I open the .dwg file in AutoCAD I am presented with a 3D sort of model which then I explode to just get the front face of. Next, I want to copy that model face into another Autocad file but when I paste, it just pastes in the side view and not the front view as I need. I tried to reset the home view and stuff but for some reason it doesn't want to work. 

If you lot could help that would be fantastic!

1. What is the object type of the “front face” you want to copy to another AutoCAD file?
2. What do you mean by “model face”? 
3. Are you selecting some geometry in AutoCAD and then using Ctrl-C to copy it to the clipboard and then using Ctrl-V to paste it to another file?

Posting  a sample of what you are starting with and what you get after pasting would be helpful.

I want to copy this onto another drawing but when I try to paste it onto the other drawing it just wants to paste a white line instead of this shape. This makes me think that even though I select this geometry it wants to paste the side profile of this 2D shape.

You need to change the view and then copy the object to a new drawing🙂
