Printer dialog box slow to open

Anonymous

Hello,

When I am in AutoCAD and click print, the print dialog box is very slow to open. It takes about 30 seconds to open the options for me to select the plotter.

Are there any known fixes for this?

I have rebuilt the plotter folder but this has made no difference.

Is this a sudden new problem, a problem limited to one file, or did something change with your PC over the weekend?
What are your AutoCAD and Windows versions?

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

 Are there network printers involved?  Here is an article that sounds like it is describing your problem.  It describes how the dialog will only appear after a timeout. I would rebuild your PC3 and CTB file and test again and let me know if that helps.

Hello,

This has only started recently about a week ago and affects all the drawings. We are running AutoCAD Light 2017

What changed a week ago: get a new printer? get rid of a printer? get a new server? buy new PCs?
What is your Windows version?
Did .NET 4.7 get installed a week ago?

What do you mean by you have "rebuilt" the plotter folder?

Go into Options, Files Tab, and change both of the paths indicated below to something other than what they are now. It can be any folder, like C:\Temp, it doesn't have to contain any plotter files. Then try the PLOT command again. Any better?

Come back with your answer, please.

We did add a new printer and this was a printer which is being shared on the network. No issues with adding the printer and we can print through AutoCAD. The slow response to the dialog does not coincide with the new printer being added unfortunately.

@pendean

Nothing has changed in the last week although something must have. I have gone through all the printers on the machine and removed both the printers and the respective drivers. The windows version is Windows 7 Professional. .NET 4.7 hasn't been installed.

@rkmcswain

I tried this and unfortunately, this didn't solve the problem.

@john.vellek

So I went through the article and this did not resolve the problem. We stopped just short of rebuilding the windows profile. What is interesting is, if we close AutoCAD and then open this up with a brand new template, the print dialog opens without issue and promptly. This would suggest it is something within the drawing?!?! Does this help in any way?

Many thanks for your suggestions,

Luke

Hi guys,

Just wondered if you had any feedback following my responses on the 7th?

Thanks,

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for posting again.  Yes, if the template seems to be part of this problem I would like to see it. If it isn't something you want to share then perhaps rebuilding it piece by piece makes sense.
