print a .dxf file

Hello

i want to print some .dxf files. i sent them off and have had them laser cut but they came back unlabeled.

i need to print out on paper the .dxf file so as to identify the cut pieces.

so can anyone answer how do i print a .dxf file?

do i open it in autocad and convert it to a pdf?

i have tried this but there are too many options/settings for me as i am a total beginner and nothing has come out the right size.

my request is simple

how to print a .dxf file on paper.

but i can imagine the solution is going to be dificult for me.

is there another program that could do this?

obviously i want to print out the dxf file with the correct measurements. everything i have tried so far has resulted in wrong size or blank page print outs

thanks

To Import a DXF File | AutoCAD 2018 | Autodesk Knowledge Network

Once you have saved it as a .dwg you can print using your .ctb

Hi,

from AutoCAD >> Open command >> change now Files of type down there in the dialog to DXF (*.dxf ) . Now from PLOT command make your own settings and print .

if i open dxf and page set up select window and draw any old rectangle enclosing object then setting it to 1.1 scale and mm it is still printing 1 or 2mm smaller ie 105mm prints out at 102mm

  • Open AutoCAD
  • Open your file explorer to the folder that contains your DXF file.
  • Drag+Drop the DXF file onto the command line or title bar of AutoCAD.
  • It will open
  • At this point, treat it like any other open drawing.

the problem was printing it out at the correct size. thanks for advice on how to open it but i needed pointing in the right direction re page set up. even when i selected scale 1.1 and mm and selected mm=1 unit it was printing out at roughly 97% smaller.

this will probably be a printer error -cheap printer or some setting is out.

a 100mm square printed out measuring  97mm x 97mm so i set mm = .97 units in plot scale and hey presto it prints to the correct size.

Instead of printing the DXF file have you thought about etching your part number on the part.

It is a quick process while cutting and usually does not change the price.
