Pop-ups

I am using 2018 version of AutoCad. I have received the attached title blocks from the Architect. Initially they have added their logo using some Microsoft soft ware. The pop ups will not let me do anything on my drawings. So I asked them to remove the logo. I have printed the logo and scanned it. I thought if they remove the logo the problem will go away. But that is not the case. Can some one help me to get rid of this Pop-ups.

Thanks.

perhaps you can share a screen capture of the popups and post that here

also what are you planning to do with these title block drawings which are only in Layout1 and there's nothing in Model?

@apanbasu Nothing wrong with your DWG files here, other than a lack of any images in them.

What pop-ups are you getting exactly? Look like you did not try to explain what they are about so we can't help you with much of anything so far.

I have attached screenshot of the pop-up. As soon as I open AutoCAD - this pop-up shows up. I detached the logo and purged everything without luck.

I have attached the pop-up screen shot with my reply to Penedean. I have attached here again.

I am going to xref this title block to my drawings. Yes I have to copy paste to Model space before I xref.

From you screen capture looks like you're trying to xref the title block dwg into your dwg.

but regardless since the title block dwg only contains objects in Layout1 as I stated earlier and nothing in Model, even if you don't see that popup, you'll see nothing referenced into your drawing.

You can ask the architect why the title block is not provided to you in Model

FYI, I'm opening the title block drawing in AutoCAD 2020 & I don't get that error message.

Not sure if it's because of your AutoCAD 2018 version but I do know that there's been no dwg format change since 2018.

Does that popup occur both when you Xref as well as Open the dwg now that everything is placed in Model tab?

Perhaps you can install the latest 2024 version as a trial and see if that fixes the problem.

Few people are going to download and open a random .docx file.

You can paste your image inside this forum message itself for easy, low-risk viewing. Example below.

@apanbasu So you can't just close the pop-up?

pendean_0-1702067947003.png

What CAD program is your file-creator using exactly?

As noted by others, their file content is in paperspace, so you can never EVER just XREF that layout into any other DWG file, AutoCAD does not do that. Are you aware of it?

You might be able to open this file trouble-free like the rest of us if you use the free DWGTRUEVIEW then "DWGCONVERT" it to a new DWG file that maybe you can use better in your older 2018 software

@rkmcswain 's image is a clue....  When I put just genuine-stage.autodesk.com from the beginning of the header of @apanbasu 's image into a browser, it ends up going to a differently-named but clearly related website about genuine software.  Why something about that would pop up with no visible content, I have no idea, but....

[Some responders have not noticed that you are aware of the need for Xref content to be in model space -- see the end of Message 6.]

That was a total random chance @Kent1Cooper - I literally went to my cache of screenshots over the years and selected that as a sample image.

If you put that entire string in a browser [ https://genuine-stage.autodesk.com/api/non-beacon/ipm/3/en-US/ACAD ] --- you get this ---->

So perhaps the OP's AutoCAD is not legit, at least according to Autodesk's detection tools.

That means that old 2018 is the illegally licensed copy for sure. Ouch!

They are retired if I recall from other posts from the OP, maybe it got used for an upgrade purchase.

@apanbasu your anti-virus/windows defender is going a great job of blocking Autodesk pop-ups.

First, I want top thank you all who have responded to my post.

This is reply to all.

I have converted the file to 2013 and then opened. After several tries I was able to copy and paste the file in Model space. I then deleted the file in Layout space. Back to Model space and after several tries able to close the file. I have attached two screenshots one with the drawing and one with the drawing closed.

It seems to me whatever that popup is -

that is now resided in the base program. I have re-installed the software but without luck.

I have purged everything to remove any trace of the original Logo. Do I need to go back to the architect if they can help?

Unfortunately, I am of Dinosaur age ( I am 87 years old) and my machine is of Dinosaur age. It is a 32 bit machine. I cannot install newer versions on my machine. If some body could clear the drawings of the popup and send me the drawings that will be highly appreciated

I bought this autocad version from an online store 3 years ago. I did not have any issue until I got this file. This Architectural firm changed hands twice in since 2021. This problem started with the latest company logo which I received a few days ago..

First of all, this has nothing to do with whatever files you've received from the other Architect especially after you've uninstalled & reinstalled with just opening AutoCAD itself the popup occurs. Autodesk is basically telling you that your software is not legit.

Also it has nothing to do with the drawing version being 2018 or 2013. Since you're running AutoCAD 2018, it should be able to read all dwg formats without any issues since as I stated in my previous posts 2018 is the latest dwg format.

Looks like it's pretty obvious that since you bought this from an on-line store 3 years ago which would have been 2020 and since Autodesk no longer sold AutoCAD 2018 since 2017, then the party you purchased 2018 from gave you pirated software. Unfortunately, I have to say you've been duped. You can read up more about pirated software officially on the Autodesk site:

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/The-license-you-re...

If you want to use real AutoCAD software unfortunately the only way to go now is to purchase directly from a certified Autodesk reseller or go directly to the Autodesk website.

And you'll have to purchase a new computer that can handle it.

No idea, we are end users just like you. Contact an Autodesk reseller in your region, they might be able to liaison between you and Autodesk (this may not be a free service) https://www.autodesk.com/partners/locate-a-reseller

In the meantime, free and low cost AutoCAD alternates can still be found, explore here

I had a 3 years subscription and it ended this month. So, I extended the subscription for another three years. Unfortunately, I am having some issues with the the installation of the extension.

The other option is definitely buying a new computer along with thousands of Dollars subscription every year. The options I need in my desktop runs around $3,000. I may have to bite the bullet.

Thank you.
