Polyline start/ end not showing

Some Polylines do not display the first part of the line.

  • Not specifically the first vertex but sometimes coinciding with it, for example in a block with a closed rectangular polyline. See attached.
  • The symptoms can go as quickly as they come, but while I do not know the cause I'm powerless to control it.
  • Linetype can be continuous or not it makes no difference.
  • It happens when Linetype generation is disabled.
  • I tried switching off graphics hardware acceleration.
  • The issue is only visible on screen AND during plot previews, an actual plot to PDF file does not contain the problem.
  • It first noticed it on one drawing, but it has since appeared to spread like a virus perhaps with blocks I've created then copied between drawings.
  • I had considered if a Lisp I regularly use is changing a setting that I'm unaware of but that wouldn't account for it being copied in a file by a Pline in a block.
  • I have tried reinstalling a fresh copy of AutoCAD using default workspace settings, but the issue reappears eventually.

Since writing this post the file I had open has magically fixed itself so I can't provide a screenshot. Attached is a drawing containing a block which is know to be an issue.

Having searched the forums there are several posts which may refer to the same issue but I haven't found any answers.

Would appreciate any suggestions I can try to remedy this.

Are you sure it's not just a temp glitch with your video card that now appears to be sorted out?
Or is the WIPEOUT inside your block simply "acting up" like it does for some users?
Or is this a DRAWORDER issue?

Your posted file seems to be from a vertical (Civil3d by chance?): what does ABOUT command list as your AutoCAD version?

Hi Pendean, thanks for your reply.
It's been reoccurring intermittently on a number of drawings for approx 6 months now.  I can't say for sure it's not my graphics card, to test that I would need to switch to integrated graphics. As I can't deliberately reproduce the issue it makes it hard to test. I will check my drivers are up to date though.

It's not the WIPEOUT as it can happen to a variety of polylines in a variety of situations, different layers, inside blocks, stand alone, multiple vertices. The only affected element seems to be the polyline as it doesn't seem to affect basic lines.

The draworder doesn't appear to be relevant as it can happen even when there is no overlapping elements.
I only have a subscription for AutoCAD which I have freshly installed 2019 about a month ago. I have had C3D installed on this workstation in the past. What aspect of the file suggests it's from C3D? Interesting to pursue this line of thinking.
Ultimately I need to reformat the machine and do a complete fresh install of Windows and AutoCAD which is when I'll update to 2021. I have just haven't had the down time yet due to clients trying to finalise designs for planning applications before mothballing.
Once I'm up and running again I may need to recreate all my blocks to prevent spreading the issue in future.

Sadly there is no fix for "... intermittently.." if you and us cannot recreate it on demand when we want it: I'm also not seeing what you describe (if I understood it correctly) with your block in my files. Sorry.

How do you normally fix it? have you tried just closing and restarting AutoCAD? or something else?

Next time it happens grab a bunch of screenshots that show it.

TIA

[I wrote this reply the same day, but it hadn't been posted for some reason]
------------------
I went for lunch and when I came back there it was again. Computer had not been to sleep, only the monitors.
I saved, closed file and re-opened, still there. Closed AutoCAD, reopened, still there.

First repeatable behaviour I've managed to isolate:
If I Zoom All and regenall the line displays correctly. If I then CTRL-S quicksave and regenall, the issue comes back. Zoom All and regenall and it displays correctly.
------------------
As a couple of days have passed I've reopened the file and the issue is immediately present.
I will try to pare the drawing file down to remove the client data and preserve the issue, will post it over the weekend. In the meantime here are some screen shots to illustrate the issue.
