Over the last couple of months when I create a pdf set in AutoCAD 15 Sheet Set Manager for just 30 sheets the fille size is huge over 30-40 Meg.  How do I get this reduced?  Thanks for your Help, Dave

What kind of autocad drawings?

Do they have a lot of text?

How big (file size) are these autocad files?

The xref's are large at 3 Meg and paper space drawings are small at 300K.
Somebody in another office produced the same set of pdf's from the same set
of drawings and a combined PDF set from them was 9 Meg and mine was over 65
Meg.

Are you both using the same PDF printer/plotter?

Different PDF printers will produce different results.

Hi,

I have two questions:

a) do you have raster files or OLE objects in the drawing(s)? If so which resolution have you set within the driver details?

b) within the custom properties of the driver, have you set that TXT is printed as geometry or TXT is printed by using the fonts?

So that's only 1MB per sheet for 30 sheets, very normal if the content includes many lines, some hatches, lots of text, and more common object types.

Who is your target audience? Would they prefer legible PDFs or smaller files? IS the other fella doing some of the following tricks to knock files size down? You can't really have both. If you intend for this set to be only ever used for screen viewing, no printing and no zooming in to see details, you can dumb down the PDF file by severely dropping the resolution AS WELL AS sheet size (letter PDF is a smaller size than an E size for example).

To add to what others have suggested (and I hope I'm not duplicating any advice here), also be aware that PDF quality settings within the PDF printer driver can have a dramatic effect on output file size.

Things are usually more complicated...
