Hi,

welcome @Anonymous.autodesk.com!

We can't tell you if that is ok for you or not as we don't know what type of drawings you are working with (size of drawings, lot of XRef's, 3D or 2D, ...)

I (personally) would have big problems having only 120GB as primary drive, but also that depends on what you will install on your system.

Here are the system requires page: http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/System-...

But again, like Alfred said, it depends what you are doing. Don't allow yourself to get hung on computer specifications. This isn't PC Specialist.

Your hardrive is so tiny it will become useless in less than a year. 256Gig is bare minimum, 512Gig is best. Yes, that's going to jack up the price quite a bit.

Speaking from experience, even though you have a 2TB HDD for storage, the 128 GB SSD is small. I went that route and found that it fills up quickly with just the OS and programs. So a year later I ended up buying a 250GB and starting over. Go with a 250GB SSD and a smaller HDD. Unless you are a personal server of some sort, you don't need a 2TB HDD. A 500GB or 1TB will be more than enough. And if not, you can always add data drives later, but changing your OS drive is a pain.

A 350w power supply is small. They are cheap enough that you should go with at least 500, unless you have some sort of space constraint like if you were building some sort of mini system or something. Regarding the video card, I cannot speak for using a desktop card for Autocad. I have always used workstation cards and have never had a problem. That being said, several people on this forum have used desktop cards and seem to be ok with them. I would personally choose an AMD FirePro V4900 or an nvidia Quadro K620 before a gaming card because they are proven performers.

Regarding the comments about 120GB being too small, we've had 120GB SSDs in our office for the OS drive for the past three years.  They have had about 50GB free during this entire time.  It depends on how much software you're using.  Our systems also have a 500GB drive for storage and all of our company files are stored on the server.

That said, at this point there's probably a minimal price difference between 120GB & 256GB now so 256GB is probably still the option you'd want.  But if you're stuck with 120GB for whatever reason, it is doable.

We're running Windows 7 Pro, AutoCAD 2016 (also have 2015 installed), Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe Photoshop CS5, Adobe InDesign CS5, MS Word 2010, MS Excel 2010, and MS Outlook 2010.  Then the usual stuff like web browsers, printer drivers, and small utilities.  All softwares are updated.

Hello all,
Thank you for your replays. I wil notice to change graphic card and PS option.

I would install Windows, AutoCAD, main applications and working files under SSD and rest on 2 TB HDD. It will work fine. I really like that Samsung SSD since i it is quite fast. The main purpose will have a learning curve so from simple 2D to complex 3D.

Also I need a configuration which will last for at least 3-4 years.

Hi,

>> I would install Windows, AutoCAD, main applications and working files under SSD and rest on 2 TB HDD

That sounds like you install main applications on C: and less important applications on 😧 ...?

If so: never ever do that! Hold all applications on C: so your 😧 is just a data drive (or maybe a drive for applications that run without registry/installation content).

The reason is whenever you have to change any of that two drives you run in troubles when you have installed applications in more than one drive.

In case of mixed app-install:

If you need to change C: you have to setup Windows and the main applications and now don't forget: you have a rest of old applications on 😧 which needs to be cleaned very very carefully before you do a reinstall for them. And yes, you need to install them as the registry on C: is new and don't know that applications

If you need to change 😧 you loose the files from the minor apps ... that results in a defect registry content on C: so at least you might have to reinstall the complete system from scratch, the registry might then be so defect that even booting might be a problem (worst case, but >>>Murphy is not sleeping<<<, especially in such cases).

Just my 2c, - alfred -

Then you need an SSD drive in the 512G size/range. Buy anything smaller for the primary C: drive and you will be wishing you did as we asked in about a year or two at the most.

Be aware of what Alfred said - you should always install ALL of your programs on C because of the registry and use your HDD as nothing more than a data drive. You should be able to remove the HDD from the computer completely and still have the computer work perfectly fine. You mentioned Samsung so you probably mean the 850 EVO which you can get the 250GB right now at places such as Amazon for $89.00, which is pretty cheap. You also mentioned the computer lasting 3-4 years, so you really should go with the 250 over the 120 because there are things you may not be considering. For example, you have 16GB RAM, which means windows is going to reserve 16GB of space on your C drive for a page file. Restore points take up a decent amount of space, etc.. If you don't install a lot, you may be perfectly fine. Or you may find that some day you are getting low on space and then you will want to start thinking about changing or moving your page file, turning off or down the amount reserved for restore points, turning off hibernation, etc.. If you go with the 250 GB, you will never have to even think about it. Just my 2 cents....

Good points on the storage space, Steve.  It is worth noting that we have Hibernation disabled (useless feature for Desktops – Sleep is the far better alternative) and have also disabled System Restore because it has never once worked for us the way it was supposed to.  I thought we had reduced our page file from 16GB to 8GB, but when I just checked it, it's still at 16GB.
