Does anyone know about the Encryption Providers that enable Password protected drawings to be opened or passwords to be written?

They are not listed under the advanced security options. Are these missing from my Autodesk software or my Microsoft operating system?

is there an enable/disable switch? My Autodesk 2010 Security Options is showing me that my Current encryption type is 'Microsoft Base

Cryptographic Provider v1.0'. The Advanced Options is not listing any encryption providers.,and the right Options is listed 7 or more,of

course inliude Microsoft Base Cryptographic Provider v1.0,We can see the right and can work as bleow pic .  the red zone is empty ,is there a way to

solve this issue?

The encryption providers that are available to you depend on the operating system and country.

Please note that the ability to add password protection to drawing has been removed from the 2016 products:

About Passwords and Encryption

In the 2016 release these are the recommended alterratives:

  • Output the drawing as a PDF file, and add a password to the PDF
  • Package the drawing in a ZIP file, and add a password with a secure external utility
  • Use a third-party password and encryption utility with, for example, 256-bit AES technology or equivalent
  • Protect the drawing behind network permissions
  • Protect the drawing behind Autodesk 360 or other cloud provider permissions

The Cryptographic Services are controlled by operating system so the issue you are seeing is most likely a Microsoft issue.

Try setting the services to start automatically:

  • Open Administrative Tools in Control Panel.
  • Double-click Services.
  • Right-click Cryptographic Services and select Properties.
  • Select Automatic for the Startup type
  • Click Start.

It may be that you do not have the cryptography providers installed.

You can check this by opening looking at the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Cryptography\Defaults\Provider

InstalledCryptographyProviders.png

If the providers are not listed then you should contact Microsoft for support installing them.

I have the same problem. I can't password-protect a drawing file.

My registry looks pretty much the same as in Dan.Scales' image. A screen-shot of my registry is attached. But when I open the Security Options palette there's nothing under "Current encryption type," where the palette shown on the Cad-Notes web page says "Microsoft Base Cryptographic Provider v1.0".

I searched for that name, and was directed to a replacement for Base Cryptographic Provider, called "Microsoft Cryptographic Provider Development Kit." I downloaded and installed that and then re-booted the system and tried again, but got the same result. I tried the Advanced Options button, but there were no options in the "Choose an encryption provider" box, and it wasn't possible to add anything to that box.

Can anyone suggest what's causing this failure?
