Pallet revisions

I continually build blocks and add them to my tool pallets as needed for my personal use.  Can anyone suggest the simplest way to share these pallets with co workers, and after that revise them say once a month to add what is needed without just deleting the pallet and then creating it again.  I'm getting it done but I don't believe I'm doing it very efficiently.

Best way I've found is to right click on the tool palletes toolbar, customise palettes, select the palette in question from the left-hand list, right click it and export, then save it to a shared area such as a network drive which your co-workers will have access to.

Then on their machines go through the same steps; right click on the tool palletes toolbar, customise palettes, the in the left side menu right click and this time import, navigate to the shared area where you saved the palette and import it.

Then in the future if you have revised your master palette all you need to do is go through the same export process on your computer and override the palette saved in the network drive. Then when your co-workers next log in their palettes will all have updated to the latest version.

Locate the tool palettes in a central, network location. Then ensure that only ONE person (probably you) has WRITE access to this location. At any time now, you can point your other users to this location (Options > Files ) and they will have access to these palettes. It would be a good idea to put your blocks, and other items in a similar central network location too - before building the palette tools. If a block on a palette tool, is on your "C" drive and your co-worker tries to use this tool, it's going to look on his "C" drive and not find it. The reason you only want ONE person to have WRITE access is so only that one person can make changes. If multiple people have WRITE access, then the last one out wins. That mean if you make changes, and your co-worker Joan makes changes --- then the last one to close AutoCAD that day - those are the changes written to the files on disk.

This seams to work like I would need it.  I only have one issue.  When a pallet currently exists on a computer (A) and I make a revision to the pallet on computer (B) then export it and override the pallet on the network.  done.. works perfect. 

When I import the pallet to revise it on computer (A) it doesn't over ride the pallet and revise it.  It simply adds another pallet with the same name and I then need to pick the correct one and remove it.  Also not a huge deal but kind of a hassle.  Is there a way to over ride on the import option.?

@cory - you do not need to import and export anything. Just create the tool palettes, and map each user to them. When you update something, it will show up the next time other users close AutoCAD and reopen it.

I just have a set of palettes that I use and then a set on the server that everyone else's computer points too. That way I can add stuff to my personal palettes when I find tools we need. Every so often I just delete everyone else palettes and copy and paste in my palettes to the server at the end of a day. The next day when they load up autocad they all have the new palettes. 

I give a heads up because everything anyone else added to the server palettes before I delete them goes bye bye. That way people can tell me to keep a tool or two they want.

Here are two nice palette videos from autodesk university that I found helpful.  The second refers a little back to things shown in the first video so might be helpful to watch them in the order I posted. The master one is obviously second. I learned a couple tricks from them.

Hi @cory

I was under the impression that once you've made the revisions on computer B and overridden the file saved in the shared location, once you went back onto computer A the palette shouldn't need re-importing as it is still looking for the same file in the same location? Are you saying this isn't the case and the tool palette hasn't updated back on computer A? If you relaunch CAD does this address the issue?

Another thing you could look into is re-pathing the 'tool palette file location' to your shared area. Do this within the options menu > files > tool palette file locations.

If not have a look what the other guys are saying, they seem to have some good ideas.
