OVERKILL - Can I 'protect' lines a specific layer?

Is there any way of working with OVERKILL that would make it possible to 'protect' lines on a specific layer? I have tried running it with the 'keep' objects on a locked layer, but it doesn't delete anything, and I have also tried it with the lines i want to keep brought to the front of the draw order, but it seems to be rather random in deciding which lines to remove. There's a roughly 50/50 mix of 'front' items and 'back' items left after the OVERKILL command.

Any tips on how I could achieve this would be greatly appreciated...

Hi,

Why not turn off/freeze the layer which you don't want to OVERKILL to work on.

Hello.

I don't know if I understand what you want.

If you want to isolate overlapping objects that are on a specific layer, we can use the SELECTSIMILAR command, or QSELECT.

With these commands you can select specific objects or multiblos by filtering only the layer or other property you want.

After selecting the objects, you can delete, move, copy, and finally apply any command as with any selected object.

(sorry for English, I'm using a translator.)

Hi Matias, thank you for your response.

I am producing 2D drawings of a 3D model of a platform structure and I have used the FLATSHOT command to get the views I need. Of course FLATSHOT does not retain the layer settings from the original model, so I end up with a view where everything is on layer 0. I would like to move the floor plates onto one layer, and the steelwork onto another, and to do this manually will take time.

I had a thought that I could automate the process slightly if I produce a second flatshot of ONLY the floor plates in the 3D model and place the new flatshot view onto a separate layer. I could then overlay it onto the original layer 0 flatshot and remove all of the duplicates, leaving behind only the floorplates and the rest of the steelwork that was visible around the floor plates. The remaining steelwork could then easily be isolated and be moved from Layer 0 to it's own steelwork layer.

Unfortunately this doesn't work as I hoped because I can't stop Autocad from deleting some of the objects on the floor plates layer.

Hi vinodkl,

Thank you for you response. If I turn off, freeze or lock the layer of the objects I want to keep, they are no longer there for AutoCAD to use during the OVERKILL command, thus nothing gets deleted.

Well, let's try something I thought of here ...

load the two views you want, select the floor view, change the layer, move these objects to the location you want, then give the Delete command, and select the entire floor area, so you will select the objects you want to keep and the ones you want to clarify.

Then, before completing the Delete command, type R to remove objects from the selection, and then type P to search for the last objects that were moved, that is, the floor objects. When you enter Enter, the floor objects you want will be kept, and objects from layer 0 will be deleted.
