Ordinate dim value different if added in locked viewport compared to model space

Hi guys,

I have a really frustrating problem. I have a drawing that I am trying to add ordinate dimensions to. If I set my viewport in paper space to 1/4"=1'-0" and add an ordinate dim the dimension reads incorrectly at 514. If I go into model space and ordinate dim the same point it correctly comes in at 51.4. I am absolutely sure I am dimensioning through the locked viewport into model space and not paper space.

Is there a way I can fix this?

Thank you.

I seem to have figured out the issue after an hour of frustration. The UCS through an open viewport seems to exist at a different position than the one in the model space layout. If I set the UCS in model space to a fixed point and set an ordinate dim, the value comes in correctly. If I open the viewport to the drawing in paper space the dimension is off by a factor of 10. If I then open this same viewport and set the UCS to the same point I originally did in model space the ordinate dim is now correct to what's in the actual model space layout.

Am I missing something here? It was my understanding the viewport is a window into model space itself. How can the UCS in an open viewport to model space have a differenct UCS coordinate than model space itself?

Hi and welcome to AutoDesk community,

Regarding Dimordinate command and just for review, this command take the perpendicular distances from an origin point (datum point) and the datum is established by the current location of the UCS origin.

Regarding UCS itself you're right when you said (..the viewport is a window into model space itself.) and in usual cases this VP have the same ucs orientation but in your case and for unknown reason or human mistake these discrepancy happened.

HI arikadesu

Welcome to the Autodesk Community forums!

If you would attach the drawing where you are seeing this issue with ordinate dimensions I would be happy to take a look to see how the problem might have been created.

Hi @arikadesu,

Have you resolved your dimension question? If not, please update your post and possibly attach your drawing so i can assist you.
