Opening DWG File Issue

My boss sends me files via outlook to open up and work on. When I open these files on my computer, they are distorted and have very little detail. When he opens them on his computer, there are no issues. Need an answer as to why this is happening so I can resolve my problem.

Since AutoCAD dwgs can be composed of xrefs , these “child” dwgs will need to come along with the “parent” dwg. Likewise also if there are special fonts used, custom linetypes & hatch patterns, ctb or stb plot styles and etc all should accompany the original dwg in order for you to have everything your boss has for you to work on the dwg. Furthermore if any changes occur on the xref dwgs you won’t see those changes until your boss sends them to you again.  This is the main reason to have either a local area network or cloud service like Autodesk Docs so you all share a single location to work on the same dwgs.

Forgive me, but may I ask if you've been using AutoCAD for long and if by chance at some point you chose to permanently close those pesky alerts at the start of each DWG opening that tell you all about the missing content?

And an even dumber question: why aren't you talking to your boss about the missing content? One of you knows more than the other and it's time to share that knowledge between you two.

TIA
