Open drawing as read-only, AutoCAD still creates DWL and DWL2 lock files

I have a user who uses Sheet Set Manager > highlights several drawings > right click > 'Open Read-only' and when he does this, it creates DWL and DWL2 files with his user info. When I do the same process, AutoCAD does not create the DWL and DWL2 files with my user info.

If another user opens one of those drawing files  normally, they will get the dialog box warning them that the file is read only (because of the existence of the DWL and DWL2 files) - BUT THE FILE CAN STILL BE EDITED AND SAVED.

What is happening here? How can I make his computer not create those files?

His AutoCAD version is...? Yours is?
Windows OS is...? and you?
Files are located where for him? You?

Everybody on:

AutoCAD MEP 2014 SP1 using Sheet Set Manager only (not Project Nav.)

Windows 7 64bit

in this case, he may have used VMWare client

File servers are also Windows boxes, unknown (but modern and supported) version

All computers are within the same LAN

That may well be the problem: find out and test more thoroughly.

I tried to recreate the issue from 2 separate vDesktops, and neither his (original) nor my personal attempt using vDesktop recreated this issue.

I'm going to chalk it up as a fluke/glitch/whatever. Cheers.
