OLE editing issues

My light fixture schedule is an embedded OLE object, excel spreadsheet. For some reason, when I opened the OLE excel file to edit it today, the excel window opens, I see all the correct data in the excel spreadsheet, but the window is flashing and I cannot click on anything. I can only close it. The window flashes as if there is a notification that has popped up somewhere. (For example when you print a document as a PDF, the window flashes because another window opens prompting you to specify where the PDF should be saved.) In this same way, the excel window is flashing, but there is no additional window that has opened.

Did you recently change from dual monitors to a single? Or change display settings? The missing pop-up is probably off-screen.

Hi @Anonymous,

It does sound like the popup is off screen.

Try a reboot  and then open this again to see if the problem is still there. Try using ALT-TAB to move between windows to see if you can find an offending one.

The good old reboot method worked. But this was interesting. I closed all open programs before restarting, and when the computer was shutting down it said "Cannot quit Microsoft Excel". Even though I had closed everything first. I selected "force close" and when I opened the autocad file after restarting, everything is back to normal. I can now edit the OLE excel file. Not sure what was going on because I couldn't find an extra open window anywhere, but at least the problem is resolved.

Thanks!
