Old drawing fonts too long

We recently upgraded from AutoCAD 2015 to AutoCAD 2018.  When the old drawings are opened, the fonts are too long and overlapping.  Is there a simple default setting that I can change to match the original font properties for each drawing I open?

There are a couple of things that could be going on here.  You could need to install the latest update to 2018 (2018.1.2) or the font could be missing from your computer.  At the command line do you get any messages about substituting fonts?

hi @morganrj,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

If you select one of the pieces of text and look at its properties, check to see which Text Style it has. Then open the Text Style manager  (ST) and selct the same style on the left hand side. Once it is selected, look at the Font Name.  If it has a little warning icon by the name then the font is either missing or damaged and an alternate font is being used instead.  Is this what you see in your drawing?

Open your file, look at [F2] Textscreen: Which Font is missing?

If you have the right font, it should work in 2018 too.

1. If you switched from 2015 to 2018 the issue not appear by this step,

2. Are you using ANOTHER Computer or a new OS for 2018?

If not: Is 2015 still available? Then Start them and check your FONTMAP variable there.

"Arial lite" is not a font, it is only a named textstyle in your drawing file.

But on the right you have a ! for "Arial Narrow", that the needed Font.

Works 'Arial Narrow' in Word and Excel?

Use Google for solve this problem. Example

Hi @morganrj,

As Sebastian indicates, the font you need to locate is Arial Narrow.ttf. This is typically part of your Windows installation.

I zipped up the ones from my Windows. You can try to rt-click on ArialN.ttf and select install to see if that corrects the problem.
